There is a question at the bottom of each topic page...
How to use this dictionary
At the beginning of the book there are topic pages. These include lots of
useful words on a particular subject, such as Pets and In the park. Each
word has its translation and help on how to pronounce it. The words on
the topic pages can be found in the English A–Z and in the French A–Z.
There are lots of other useful words here, too. The verbs section can be
found after the A–Zs. At the back of the book there is a list of useful

Speaking French
In this dictionary, we have spelled out each French word in a way that will help you
pronounce it. Use this guide to help you understand how the word should sound when
you say it. Some French words look the same as English, but sound very different!
When speaking French the stress of each word is on the last syllable, so you say it a
little bit louder. Each syllable is spoken for the same amount of time.
u like ew in few ew tu
tew
an, en, ien, the n is not pronounced, but the a(n), ah(n), o(n) bien
in, ain, ein, vowel in front of it should have bya(n)
on, un a nasal sound, as if the word ended
am, em, im, in ng. For example, as if you said song,
aim, eim, but stopped before saying
om, um the final ng.
