SERVICES OFFERED

There are 3 Core Units in TNBES

¾ 1. Renewable Energy Hybrid System

¾ 2. Renewable Energy Mini Hydro/Biomass
¾3. Power Quality/Energy Efficiency
TNB-ES BUSINESS
TNB-ES supports Government
Policy on Renewable Energy, i.e. to be 5th
fuel source and to generate 200MW by:

ƒ Implementing Demand Side Management as part of an

Energy Efficiency Program
ƒ Carry out energy audits and energy performance contracting
for large power consumers
ƒ Establish wide applications of Renewable Energy and
alternative power supply solutions in the absence of
grid supply
ƒ Provide consultancy services related to Power Quality
issues and solutions
TNB-ES supports Small Renewable Energy Program
(SREP)

„ Providing consultancy/liason services

for SREP licence, power system study
and EPC.
TNB-ES supports Malaysian Government policy on
Rural Electrification

„ Providing facilities for 24hr electricity supply to

remote areas/islands not connected to the
national grid

„ Providing least cost option solution, as

compared to grid supply

Why Solar Hybrid?

Supply from National Grid:

• High cost – far from grid system (current
distance considered for grid < 5km) –
• Not available – remote
Diesel Stand Alone (Genset):
• 6 to 12 hour supply
• High fuel cost and consumption
• High Operation, Maintenance, Repairs &
Replacement Cost (OMR&R)
• Low reliability
Why Solar Hybrid?
Operational problems;
Disadvantage of Stand-alone Genset

„ Generator set starting failure, requires unscheduled

site visits/permanent manpower for fault rectification.
„ Generator engine life also proved unsatisfactory.
„ For isolated areas, fuel logistics and handling will
increase operational costs.
Why Solar Hybrid?

„ Able to provide 24hr supply

„ Remote Monitoring
„ Least cost option
FUNDING OF SHS PROJECTS

„ Majority of Wind/Solar Hybrid Projects undertaken by TNB-ES

are funded by Government:

1. AAIBE (Electricity Supply Industry Trust Fund)

2. Ministry of Finance (MOF)
3. Ministry of Rural Development (KKLW)
4. Ministry of Education (MOE)
TNB-ES has Constructed > 30 SHS since 2001
