University hires Emmy Award-winning staff member

(KINGSTON, R.I. Oct. 16) - The University of Rhode Island never passes up a chance to think
big. Jumping on the opportunity to welcome newly hired employee, Jeff Fountain, URI plans to
use his knowledge and experience to inspire students.

Jeff Fountain, a 3-time National Emmy Award-Winner for his directing of the of the Summer
Olympics on NBC Sports, was officially welcomed to the Harrington School for Communication
and Media. Throughout his career, he gained extensive experience as a director, producer, and
editor for both national and local tv networks, and directed broadcasts for channels such as
CNN, VH-1, CNBC. At URI he plans to share his expertise with others.

Fountain will use his strong foundation in tv studio production and management in the new tv
studio/broadcast center. In spring 2019, the new state-of-the-art tv studio will make its grand
opening after a complete $1M renovation. The Harrington School received $149,800 grant from
the Champlin Foundation in order to provide cutting-edge technology and digital video/sound
recording and production capabilities, that can be incorporated into curriculums and job
opportunities for students.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jeff Fountain into the Harrington School family,” Dr. Adam Roth,
director of the Harrington School and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said.
“His leadership in the studio is needed and we are honored to have him.”

The studio, lead and operated by Fountain, will teach, hire, train and supervise students to
create unique, broadcast-quality content and prepare students for their careers.

“I am so excited to work with the URI community and ensure that students are prepared to
become global leaders in communication and media,” Fountain said.

Established in 2008, the Harrington School of Communication and Media at the University of
Rhode Island incorporates communication studies, broadcast journalism, writing and rhetoric,
public relations, and media studies into their curriculums for students looking to gain insight on
