PROJECT NO.1

DATA
VISUALISATION

BRIEF:
Create a data visualization in Processing based on a given dataset.

LOADING PAGE
DESCRIPTION:
This data visualization was created with the intention of informing the user
about the diversity of employees in Tech Companies. It includes statistics
about gender and race. Interactivity is incorporated through the use of
buttons. The user is able to click on the company logos and along the left to
explore the data further.

PROJECT NO.2

FLYING TOY

BACK
BRIEF:
A flying object made out of a single sheet of paper. The paper can be cut and
bonded. The outcome needs to be light, well made, and fulfil it’s purpose.

DESCRIPTION:
This toy slots onto the index finger via the handle. The user lines up their shot and
flicks the “flicker” piece in their desired manner. The piece will then spin launch off
the handle. The material used is a thick form of acetate, this ensures the toy will land
fully intact. Depending on the angle of launch and force of the flick, the toy has the

FRONT
ability to travel further than 3 meters.

Arrows are used to indicate where the handle slots in.

PLACEMENT
Below are iterations of “flicker” shapes before the final product.
PROJECT NO.3

MULTIMEDIA
WEBSITE

BRIEF:
Create an informative website with a range of multimedia
elements.

DESCRIPTION:
This website aims to inform the user about the CIE Colour
Matching experiment through visual and interactive elements.
HTML5 and Canvas are used to lay out the foundations of the
webpage and create a small animation. CSS is used to design the
aesthetics of the page. Additionally, JavaScript is used to
incorporate interactive sliders which the user can play around
with to gather a further understanding of how the experiment
works.
PROJECT NO.4

WATER
TIMER

BRIEF:
This product should be a “fun” design object. In teams of 3-4 people
design a “water timer”. The designed product must use mechanisms
to allow the flow of water to move a ping-pong ball and indicates 15
seconds time lapse.

DESCRIPTION:
This water timer works by using the weight of water. When poured in
the weight of the water tilts the device over to the right and then left,
meanwhile leading the ball through a bamboo maze. The ball
reaches the end of the maze at exactly 15 seconds and the device is
at a stand still.

PROJECT NO.5

INTERLOCKING
WOOD

BRIEF:
Design a wood object which uses an interlocking mechanism.

DESCRIPTION:
This product was created with simplicity in mind. It consists of two
circular pieces which fit around a center piece. The user has the
ability to discover how the pieces lock into place.

Prior to this creation, the project had undergone a prototyping

process, one of the prototypes is shown below. It followed the same
idea but was executed differently.

RAINFOREST
SOUNDSCAPE

BRIEF:
Create an interactive soundscape with Processing.

DESCRIPTION:

START PAGE
This programme aims to replicate a rainforest environment.
Sounds are used to represent different animals and
weather conditions. Each sound is assigned its own area
on the display so that when clicked, the sound is activated.
Once activated its circular frequency spectrum appears.
These areas have not been marked, so the user is able to
explore the interface. As well as, alter the volume of any
sounds and even change the direction from
which they are heard.

PROJECT NO.7

COLUMN
PROJECT

BRIEF:
Design and make a three dimensional object as a piece of art,
expressing the idea of a column.

DESCRIPTION:
This structure was created with the intention of breaking typical
connotations of a column. It represents how a column does not have
to be a symbol of strength. This tower of leaning boxes appears quite
precarious yet still has the ability to stand alone. It relies on balance
and placement to continue standing but if these variables were to be
shifted the column would collapse. This may lead the viewer to feel
uneasy.

PHOTOGRAPHY

This selection of images is from an open ended

A-level project. The chosen theme was working
with low-light levels in urban photography.
Particularly honing in on neon and fluorescent
lights. This theme was inspired by
photographers such as Gregory Crewdson and
Kurt Manley.
