OPEN ENROLLMENT: Children will not be turned away from care due to race, country of origin, gender or
religion. All children enter Momentum Bilingual Preschool on a 30-day trial basis, to ensure proper adjustment.
AGES:
Momentum Bilingual Preschool accepts children ages 12 months to 5 years of age. Younger children considered on a
case by case basis.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE:
Always drive very slowly in Casa Solana neighborhood and school parking lot! This will avoid issues with
neighbors. Our day starts at 7:30am for the extended hours schedule and 8:00am for children enrolled in our Core
schedule. We ask that all children arrive by 9:00am. Arrival by this time facilitates a smooth transition for your
child; children arriving late have difficulty adjusting to circle time and nap time.
Pick up time is 3:00pm-3:30pm for our core schedule enrollments. Aftercare hours are 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Late fees
will apply after these times.
SIGN IN AND SIGN OUT:
Parents are required to sign their children in at drop off and sign them out at pick up time on a daily basis.
OPEN DOOR POLICY: Parents and Legal Guardians are welcome to visit any time except during naptime – from
12:00pm to 2:30pm – to ensure quiet time for the children.
FORMS AND IMMUNIZATION RECORDS:
All forms must be completed and turned in, along with immunization records at enrollment time, at least 2 days prior
to child’s start date. Forms are subject to a yearly renewal and must be kept up to date, including vaccination
exemptions. Please update shot records, as needed, whenever your child receives new immunizations.
SICK CHILD:
Sick children want and need to stay home. If you bring a sick child to school he/she will be sent home.
You cannot bring your child if he/she has a runny nose with green discharge, sore throat, fever, rash, diarrhea,
vomiting, pinkeye, herpes-or mouth sores, or any viral/bacterial infection that you’re aware of. Please refer to complete
list posted on the Community board at school and included in this Handbook.
MEDICAL RELEASE:
A Medical Release is required for all medication administered to your child. You will be asked to fill out and sign a
“request to administer medication” form before we can administer any medication to your child.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS /CLOTHING:
Each child will have his own cubby to store personal belongings. Please label all belongings and clothing with your
child’s name, and check cubbies regularly for soiled or needed items. Cubbies should have a complete, weather
appropriate change of clothes at all times, this includes hat, mittens, proper pants, socks, rain coats and snow boots in
the winter months, and sun hats in the summer months. Please provide your child with a pair of confortable indoor
shoes or hard-sole slippers, and, please do not bring toys from home.
Always dress your child appropriately and comfortably in clothes that can get dirty… they will!
OUTDOOR PLAY:
We will be outdoors as much as possible and in all kinds of weather. Please provide your child with sunscreen and a
hat year-round, as well as anything else he/she might need, such as sunglasses, raincoat and boots. We require parents
to apply sunscreen to their child before drop-off. If they don’t have it upon arrival, we will ask parents to apply it
before they leave.
MEALS:
There are never more than 3 hours between children’s meals and snacks. Please make sure your child has a healthy
breakfast before arriving at school, since our first snack is at 9:15am -9:30am. All meals will be provided by parents
and should consist of healthy, nutritious choices. Please be aware that any food dyes or coloring can contribute to
restlessness and irritability in your child. Lunch is at 11:30am-12:00pm, and the afternoon snack is at 4:15pm for
aftercare children. Please provide your child with lunch and two snacks every day, and please make sure your child’s
lunchbox has an ice pack inside, if needed. A sip-cup with water, milk or juice should accompany the lunchbox. Please
label your child’s lunch bag, sip-cup, cutlery and food containers.
Please always notify us, in writing, of any changes in your child’s diet or if he/she develops allergies or sensitivities to
foods.

Page 4
NAPPING AND QUIET TIME:
All children will nap or have quiet time from 12:00/12:30pm to 2:30pm. Please provide your child with any “comfort
items” they might need, such as a blanket and a sleeping mat that meets the following CYFD specifications: Mats
must be ¾” thick and non-absorbent. Per State licensure, all sleeping items must completely fit in a bag, provided by
parents. Please remember to take home and launder all bedding on the 2nd and 4th week of the month.
CHILDREN IN DIAPERS:
Please provide your child with disposable diapers, wipes, medium/large size disposable latex/non latex gloves, and
diaper rash ointment if needed, and label all products with his/her name (individual diapers do not need to be labeled).
HOLIDAY, RELIGIOUS AND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:
If you are planning to provide a birthday celebration for your child, you are welcome to do so from 2:45pm-3:15pm,
with prior arrangements. Please make sure to provide enough for all children and let us know what we can do to help.
While we do not impart religious education, we are not impartial to any religion. If, as a parent or family member, you
would like to share a Holiday/Religious celebration with us, please see the Director first to make arrangements.
DISCIPLINE/TERMINATION OF CARE:
Momentum Bilingual Preschool approaches the well-being of our children as a partnership with our families. All
children enter Momentum Bilingual Preschool on a 30-day trial basis, to ensure proper adjustment. Please
communicate with us about any disciplinary problems you are experiencing with your child. A guidance policy is
posted in our school.
When a disciplinary problem arises, the first course of action will be re-direction of the child/children involved, and
problem solving will be encouraged through words and not actions. If a disciplinary problem persists, a
parent/caregiver meeting will take place to find the best possible solution, and a one Month probationary period may
apply. If at the end of this period a solution has not been found, Momentum reserves the right to terminate enrollment.
Please be aware that your tuition deposit and enrollment fee will not be refunded in the event of termination of care.
DIS-ENROLLMENT:
A minimum of 30 days written notice is required via email for dis-enrollment. Please be reminded that your tuition
deposit will be forfeited should you dis-enroll your child prior to the end of the school year.
CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY:
All information regarding your child and family is confidential and will not be shared with anyone other than staff
and Official Agencies like CYFD.

severe injury requiring immediate medical attention, 911 will be called first and the parent or legal
guardian will be contacted second.

MISSION STATEMENT
Momentum Bilingual Preschool is dedicated to the loving care of children aged 12 months to 5
years. Our mission is to provide a safe, stimulating, bilingual environment (English-Spanish) in
which children can play, learn, explore, grow and gain the confidence and social skills that will
carry them through life successfully and happily. We celebrate the window of time when brain
development and the ability to learn a second language are at their peak, and we support families
in their desire to create language culture in their homes.
We serve children and their families throughout Santa Fe County.

PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

Momentum Bilingual Preschool is a Reggio Emilia inspired program, seeking to tap into each
child’s potential, preparedness, curiosity and interest in all areas of learning. We understand that
children learn primarily through play, and that play is the foundation of academic learning, self-
esteem, self-awareness and communication skills building. Children also need to be allowed to
have TIME to develop their game and see it through from start to end, to be themselves, express
who they are and be accepted as individuals. At Momentum Bilingual Preschool we understand
this, and are flexible with our scheduling. All children are different and develop at their own pace,
so individual attention will be given to each child’s developmental needs.

Teachers are partners, nurturers and guides, who facilitate children’s exploration of their learning
environments. The children’s momentum is our guide as facilitators when planning our day.
Spanish is an integral part of our program. It is introduced into all aspects of our routine and will
open your child’s mind up to learning other languages later in life. We encourage our families to
extend our curriculums in the home and join their children in their learning of Spanish.
Children are provided with a friendly learning environment, which is rich in natural, fun and safe
materials, including: child-size furniture, dramatic play, blocks, art, music, quiet time and library,
manipulatives, sensory exploration and science areas. We allow for plenty of outdoor play
opportunities: bug hunts and exploration, sand and water experiences, bike riding, and the
exploration of natural materials, as well as an introduction to gardening and the care of live birds.

Page 9
CURRICULUM
Momentum Bilingual Preschool’s curriculum concentrates on play and exploration as the primary
source of learning and provides ample opportunities to make choices throughout the day.
Children actively engage in learning and will be encouraged to move freely through a variety of
areas of interest and activities for individual exploration and group play. Long and short-term
projects, initiated by the children and facilitated by the teachers, determine the direction we take
for each day. Teachers remain flexible, integrating learning opportunities into all aspects of the
day.
Spanish, which in many cases is part of a child’s heritage and family history, will be used
throughout the day’s activities. We encourage our families to extend the culture of bilingualism
into the home.
Our curriculum changes as we get to know your children, and learn more about them. We observe
and listen to them, then build our curriculum around their interests. This attention on them as
individuals, as well as members of a group, promotes their social and emotional development and
wellbeing.
