Problem definition:

A given space is to be maintained at 78 F db and 65 F wb. Under full load, the total heat gain to the space has been determined to be 60,000
Btu/hr, of which 42,000 Btu/hr is sensible heat transfer. Moreover, the outdoor air requirement of the occupants was 500 cfm. The outdoor air
has a temperature and relative humidity of 90 F and 55 percent, respectively. This process is given by the solid lines of Figure B.

Now under part load condition, the state of outdoor air is changed to 0’ given in Figure B. Moreover, the end user requirement is changed to
complete outdoor air circulation. Now the cooling and de-humidification process is unachievable since the process line 0’-2 does not meets the
saturation lines. You have to modify the system using either

1. VAV approach

2. Face and coil bypass.

Determine the quantity and the state of the air supplied to the space and the minimum required capacity of the cooling and dehumidifying
equipment.
