Chapter 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, the research locale, and the

respondent of the study, the procedures to be observed in gathering data, the

research instrument and the statistical tools to interpret the data gather.

Research Design

The Purposive sampling method was used in this study. According to Adolph

Jenson (2015) “a purposive selection denotes the method of selecting a number of

groups of units in such a way that selected group’s together yield as nearly as

possible the same average or proportion as the totality with respect of those

characteristics which are already a matter of statistical knowledge”

Research Locale

This study will be conducted in Purok Silway San Juan, Talipapa vand in

Barangay Bula, General Santos City, South Cotabato.

Purok silway San Juan, Talipapa is a very noticeable area. The development

in the place began to boost thru the supervision of General Paulino Santos, Sr.

Surveying, titling and distribution of lands conducted. Schools and commercial sites

in Barangay Dadiangas were drawn in the maps. Pioneer avenue which was named

after the pioneering batch became the center of commercial establishments.

Barangay Bula derived from the word “Bula” which literally means “bubbling or

filled with bubbles”. This is so because when the early settlers came to this place,

they found the sea filled with bubbles or bubbling especially during low tide. A
possible explanation for the concurrence of bubbles is that the sea was rich with

fishes and other marine life. When fishes abound, it is normal to find bubbles on the

surface of the water as the fishes breathe. Because of its resources, Bula became a

favorite destination of migrants who came from other fishing areas in the country

such as Cebu, Bohol and Leyte islands.

Research Instrument

The researchers will utilize a self-made questionnaire as an instrument to be

used in conducting the study. The purpose of the instrument is to help the

researchers to analyze the study and aim the questions that they wanted to be

answered. The number of questions which is present to the instrument is composed

only by 10 items. Its format is in the way of scaling where in the respondents of the

study will simply check their following choices either 4-strongly agree, 3-agree, 2-

disagree, 1-strongly disagree.

Research Procedures

The researchers will be writing a letter to the three professional validators of

the college department to validate the self-made questionnaire as soon as the

instrument is validated, the researchers will send a letter to Barangay officials as a

way of asking permission to conduct the study in Purok Silway San Juan, Talipapa

and Barangay Bula, General Santos City, South Cotabato.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study were the 36 children with incarcerated parents

of Purok Silway San Juan, Talipapa and Barangay Bula, General Santos City in year

2018-2019. There will be 40 respondents in this study.

 According to Barrot (2017) in his book entitled “Practical Research 2” he

states that if the population is 40, the respondents will only be 36.
