Practicum Goal and Focus
I have planned two clinical experiences for my 604 practicum.
In my first experience, I have attended the clinical experience as a volunteer Registered Nurse at Remote Area Medical (RAM) in Smyth County, Virginia.
Through this experience I have gained:
1. A deeper understanding of the need for medical access in indigent, underserved populations.
2. Identified the need for interventions and education by advanced practice RNs in underserved communities.

In my second experience, I have planned to be precepted by Tassha Rathbone, Nurse Educator at Bassett Medical Center. I plan on identifying:
1. The responsibilities of the role of the nursing educator as advanced practice nurse in the hospital setting.
2. Addressing the learning needs for the nursing staff.
3. Participating in the planning and implementation of a nursing education program to address any knowledge deficits.
I also plan to identify the responsibilities of the role of the nursing educator in the hospital setting.

3 Outcome Three-Presented an educational PowerPoint/Voice Thread for
undergraduate nursing students from SUNY Delhi by addressing the two
learning activities from column B of the initial learning contract.
Addressed additional knowledge gaps and discussed utilization of
presentation for Schwartz Rounds. This outcome was completed.
4 Outcome Four-Discussed with Tassha Rathbone (nurse preceptor) the
role of APN. and how she maintains her practice. Attended meetings
geared toward the education of staff nurses as new guidelines were
developed and implementation strategies were planned. This outcome

medical areas. Assisted in set-up and clean-up of dental area as needed.

nursing education addressing knowledge gaps/deficits. I will provide an
example of project in my final LC for weeks 5-7.
4 This activity has not been met. Plan to interview my preceptor and
document the requirements for maintaining an advanced practice RN. I
will provide evidence in final LC, weeks 5-7.

1  Evidence from activity one will be presented in weeks 5-7 in

Participated and planned an educational presentation which was
presented to SUNY Delhi ADN students. Facilitated the question and
answer portion after the presentation to address additional knowledge
gaps. Discussed with Tassha the possibility of utilizing the presentation
in Nurse Residency and Schwartz Rounds in the future.
4 Participated in discussions with Tassha Rathbone (nurse preceptor)
regarding her role as nurse educator. This activity was meet as I
attended and participated in several planning meetings to address
needed guidelines and procedural changes, as well as planning
Schwartz Rounds.
