Response to Addiction Substance use disorder is more than addiction. Viewing human beings as occupational beings is a
unique perspective and one that guides a wider and more effective range of interventions. This presentation will discuss the
critical role of occupation as intervention and outcome. Dr. Stover-Dambrosio works with expecting mothers with
substance use disorders, following them from pregnancy and upwards of a year post partum. Her work focuses on building
competency within the role of mother, worker and healthy adult.

Dr. Alyson Stover Dambrosio, JD, MOT, BCP is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the
University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on the feasibility of occupation based interventions to address the needs of
pregnant women with opioid addiction and their infants.

Articulating the distinct value of occupational therapy in an era of changing healthcare reimbursement. This presentation
on professional development reviews critical concerns identified by AOTA regarding significant changes in
the health care landscape, this presentation by AOTA’s own Director of Professional Development will
help participants create a professional development plan that will empower them to advocate for the
unique role of occupational therapy when talking with managers, legislators and third party
reimbursement agencies. Presenter: Debbie Amini, EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA
Pain Management from Occupational Lens With the passage of SB 273 in the 2018 WV Legislative session, Occupational
Therapy practitioners in WV have been identified as key personnel in the assessment and treatment of
pain related disorders in the state of WV. Mr. Grabe and Ms. Burkart will provide up to date, evidence
based information to support interdisciplinary best practice in the treatment of chronic pain as an
alternative to medication. Presenters: Garth Grabe MS, OTR/L and Megan Burkart, PT
Making a plan for your career! Students will meet with representatives from EBS Healthcare. This workshop is for
students and will focus on strategy for creating a successful resume and negotiation strategies for
students as they transition from the academic to the workplace environment.

Legislative briefs The WVOTA Representative to the AOTA assembly, Dr. Diana Davis, will provide valuable updates related
to the current practice concerns affecting occupational therapy practitioners at the national, state and

Congenital upper extremity orthopedics and adaptations for clients with Arthrogryposis: A Patient and Practitioner
Perspective Ms. SueAnn Woods will present this interactive workshop that takes participants through
the evaluation and intervention phases of treatment for clients with Arthrogryposis. This workshop will
uniquely include the patient’s lived experience and an interactive splinting experience in WVU’s clinical
classroom.

Facilitated conversation about Substance Use: Panel. This multidisciplinary panel will address critical questions related to
opioid use disorder (OUD). Dr. Alyson Stover Dambrosia, Assistant Professor in the Department of
Occupational Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh, Ms. Frankie Tack, Clinical Assistant Professor and
Addiction Studies Minor Coordinator at WVU and WVU’s Clinical Director Garth Graebe will share cross-
disciplinary evidence based content to support better treatment strategies. Moderator: Rondalyn

Knowledge Bowl! This raucous program prepares competing students to take the NBCOT exam through a fun game show
format. Teams simultaneously answer rounds of questions during the two-hour completion. Questions
test student knowledge of key information related to occupational therapy practice. Moderated by
representatives from EBS Healthcare and organized by Student advisors from WVU (Amanda Acord Vira)
and University of Charleston (Jackie Hurt).
