PROJECT TOPIC

Towards Detecting Compromised Accounts on Social Networks

Abstract:

Compromising account is one accessed by a person not authorized to use the account. In the

view of social network accounts like Twitter and Facebook, cyber criminals compromise

these accounts to become profitable. By hijacking control of a high-profile social network

accounts, attackers will publish their malicious messages or fake information to a large user

base. These types of incidents affect the multi-billion dollar monetary losses on financial

markets. In the previous work, they used main techniques to identify compromises of

individual high-profile social network accounts. These accounts have commonly single

characteristic that is they show consistent behaviour over time which makes the detection

very easy. And also the detection is done only on two social network accounts like Twitter

and Facebook. The proposed work use similar techniques to identify compromises of other

individual high-profile social network accounts like Instagram and LinkedIn. The datasets

from these popular two social network accounts are collected and are analysed.
