Journalism
My Pride Paper focused on the field of Journalism. I included
topics such as the history of the profession and the
advancements to the field with growth of digitalization. I
completed my interview with the resident arts writer for
Charlotte Magazine, A ​ ndy Smith.
Becoming an involved writer by providing coverage on school
news and events in the surrounding area. I hope to educate and
inform PLP students and families about events pertaining to our
school and community. I will attend Pine Lake events like plays,
musicals, showcases and review them for my magazine.
Additionally, I will provide human interest stories on specific
students who may be doing exceptional work in their
community. Outside information/news from the Charlotte/Lake
Norman area may be added to further educate my audience.
My mentor hours will be completed October 4-8 where I may
get further ideas about how to carry out my product idea. As far
as product assembly, I plan to attend events over the course of
the year in order to get an even coverage. I will write pieces and
upload them as they are complete to compile the magazine.
Estimated printing costs around $100 if I decide to provide a
printed copy

Product Description (need fulfilled / problem solved):
I aim to create an online magazine publication. I want to exercise my reporting, writing and editing skills
with my final product and provide coverage for important local events as they pertain to our PLP or the
Lake Norman community. This will be beneficial for students who missed certain events and wish to read
more about them. Additionally, this could be beneficial for parents to stay connected in their child’s life
and school. Including stories from the surrounding area will stimulate further awareness among students
and could even spotlight students who are doing incredible things in their community outside of school.
