Evaluation
CTF courses are designed to develop lifelong skills, allow for personal development in areas specific to
student interest, and encourage the development of teamwork skills often utilized in a workplace
environment. As a result, CTF courses are marked as a PASS/FAIL. Students will
be given the opportunity to have all recipes and projects checked
prior to submitting to ensure maximum success in the course.
I urge you to utilize the Parent Portal to track student
progress on projects throughout the course.

Kitscoty Jr./Sr. High Plagiarism Policy:

Plagiarism Policy
“Plagiarism can be defined as the wrongful use or close imitation of another
person’s language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions, and the representation of them as your own
original work.
We consider plagiarism to be a reflection of a person’s character.

Consequences for plagiarism could include, but will not be limited to:
- teacher or administration reprimand
- re-writing material at the teacher’s convenience
- assigning a mark of zero to the submitted work
- suspension from school”

Electronics Policy
As per the BTPS Technology Policy, " All personal electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight
during instructional times or in spaces where instruction is occurring except with the specific permission of
the principal when their use is planned, purposeful and educationally motivated"

If a student chooses to bring their phone to class, electronic devices will be expected to go into the cell
phone holder at the entrance of the classroom. If needed for class, students will be able to get their phone
out of the holder for instructional use. If a student ignores the procedure the device will be confiscated as
per the school and board policy, and will be taken to the office.
Lab Expectations
As labs and projects are a significant portion of Home Ec and student marks, it
is important to demonstrate appropriate lab and classroom behaviour. Written
work must be completed prior to cooking. Please remember the following to
ensure a fun and successful class environment:
Aprons need to be worn at all times while working in the lab

Long hair must be securely tied back

Clothing with long, baggy sleeves or jackets, or dangling jewelry will be taken off before
entering the kitchen

Shoes must be worn at all times

Counters are for food prep and work only - no sitting!

Kitchens are to be left spotless with all equipment cleaned, dried, and put away - leave the
kitchen as clean as you found it!

Kitchens need to be inspected when work is complete - this is part of your skills mark and
will impact final grades

This year our school is moving to electronic reporting of grades and therefore we will not be sending
home paper report cards. Parents are encouraged to sign up for BTPS Parent Portal online to access
student information, grades and comments. Parent Portal is only one method of communication.
Ongoing conversations and meetings regarding questions, concerns or student progress in this course
are still key to student success.
