CHARACTERISTICS
A one semester course that intends to introduce students to poetry analysis through the study of
the literary movements in poetry in the English context from the XIII to the XVIII centuries.
JUSTIFICATION
Poetry has always been an important form of symbolical expression, and the study of the different
ways in which it responded to social and historical transformation throughout time is essential for
the formation of readers, researchers and teachers of literature.

EVALUATION
Mid Semester paper consisting of the analysis of one of the Sonnets or Soliloquies by William
Shakespeare. To be turned in on October 07.
Final Evaluation: A test on the texts read and discussed in class. Date: December 02.
