For those of you who love taking pictures, we have several opportunities for you:
#1 Enter the LYLAS Photography Contest. Open to all Hendry County 4-H and FFA members for cash
prizes. Bonus this year, leaders and parents can also enter for display only. The rules are in the LYLAS rule book
which is on-line at Hendry.ifas.edu under 4-H Youth Development or stop by the 4-H office.
Deadline February 12, 2019.
#2 Enter your photos in the 4-H Booth at the Hendry County Fair with a 4-H Photography Record book.
Record book can be picked up at the 4-H office. Deadline Feb. 1, 2019.
#3 Enter your Photos in County Events. Winners in each category per age group will be sent for judging in
the State competition. See the State 4-H Photography rules at www.florida4h.org web site or you may contact the

Silver Spurs News from Julia Southerland.
I am looking forward to an exciting 4H year. I hope the last meeting was informative and a great opening to a
many things for kids with and without horses can look forward to. We will elect officers are the next meeting.
Come prepared to learn on how this process works and the expectations as President, Vice President, Secre-
tary, Treasurer, and Reporter. A field trip in Naples is scheduled to see the Spanish dancing horses and their
handlers on September 29th. We will be meeting at the LaBelle Extension Office at 8:45 am to leave promptly
at 9:00 am. We will arrive at 10:00 am to 2830 35th Ave Northeast, Naples 34120. Please plan to come as this
will be an introduction to the beautiful Freesian breed of horses. Lunch will be provided.
UPCOMING - Fundraisers, Scarecrow on the Wharf, Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Parade, Mustang Show and

The 4-H Annual Mustang Show - Horses are assigned and Youth Trainers are preparing for the show on
December 15th. The theme for the show is Christmas Patriotic.
2019 - I will be looking for teams of 4 for Horse Judging, Horse Bowl, and Hippology - these are exciting and
fun events that will take place in Gainesville. This is a GREAT opportunity for even the horseless horse clubbers
beginning age 8.
