Aim
To support the eco- tourism facility by proposing a visitor information and orientation center to ensure better
experience of the site and guide the individuals towards an ecologically sensible tour, provide a platform for the
economical and cultural development of the community.

Prologue / Justification of the Topic

With the rising popularity of ecotourism, sometimes the attraction of a large crowd to the eco sensitive locality
can in turn have negative impacts and overrule the eco friendly aspect of the eco tourism development. In certain
cases the entire experience of the locality cannot be achieved due to lack of information or guidance. This can be
tackled by offering a centre for information, guidance and education about the same.

Objectives
 Understanding the nature of possible activities in order to provide supporting facilities
 Identifying possible income generating programs and services for sustaining and enhancing the visit.
 Provide facilities for the support of local folklore.
 Try to integrate appropriate and feasible design principles towards a sustainable design and energy
conservation.

Proposed Site
Coorg, Karnataka.
 Coorg is a tourist destination situated at the south western part of the malnad area of westernghats. And
a home to the tribe kodavas
 There has been an increased interest in travel to this locality due to rising interest in treks, nature
tourism etc.
 However it is not known if the development is entirely eco friendly or not, Due to a large number of
private stays and resorts, that have been developed over the past decade.

Chikmangaluru, Karnataka
 A recent interest of ecotourists and nature tourists with scope of improvement and popularization due to
the state government proposals and projects developed along the western ghats.

Scope of Work and Limitations

 Ecotourism has become popular in Coorg among visitors interested in environmental conservation,
ensuring not to disturb the ecosystem, while creating economic opportunities that make conservation
and protection of natural resources advantageous to the local people. With the rising interest towards
eco tourism a supportive facility is required to maintain the eco aspect of the tourism. The income
generated can Support to the local community and help conserve the eco system which are the main
features of ecotourism.

Requirements
 Understanding the size of the crowd to be catered to and provide facilities for the management of the
tourist inflow, and guide them towards suitable activity.
 Lodges and restrooms
 Orientation room and gallery space.
