3. ACCESS DETAILS

The spreadsheet file is attached to this document; file name “CAL-PR-012”. The native
file can be accessed by searching for this document (ES49985-ZTZ94012) in EZ Search
and selecting “Preview Native”. The excel spreadsheet is not protected. This is to allow
customisation to suit specific project requirements. It is however recommended that
following customisation the excel file is protected to prevent changes to formulae.

4. BASIS

This spreadsheet performs utility consumption calculations for each of the utility systems.
The bases for the calculations for each utility system are presented below.

4.1 SEAWATER

This spreadsheet calculates the total seawater demand and is based on the following:

- The seawater temperature will vary throughout the year. The maximum seawater
demand is calculated based on the maximum seawater temperature. This will
result in the highest seawater flow rate for a given topsides cooling duty.
- Seawater densities and specific heat capacities are calculated based on the
average of the maximum seawater supply and return / disposal temperatures.
- Provision is included to apply a contingency margin on the seawater flow rate. A
10% contingency margin shall be applied in the early stages of design to allow for
growth in the seawater demand; refer to §5.2 of [1].
- The spreadsheet structure requires seawater demand to be entered according to
whether the seawater flow is in parallel with or in series with the water injection
pumps. For each seawater consumer, either a seawater demand or a cooling duty
shall be provided but not both. If the cooling duty is entered the seawater return
temperature from each consumer should also be provided such that the flow rat

can be calculated. For the coolers the spreadsheet will calculate the required
seawater demand as follows:

Q = q / cp / (T2 - T1) / ρ x 3600

Where; Q = Seawater volumetric flow rate (m3/h)

q = Cooling duty (kW)
cp = Average seawater specific heat capacity (kJ/kg.K)
T2 = Maximum seawater disposal temperature (°C)
T1 = Maximum seawater lift temperature (°C)
ρ = Average seawater density (kg/m3)

- The seawater flow rates of the seawater consumers in parallel with water injection
are summed and the contingency added to the subtotal.
- The seawater flow rates of the seawater consumers in series with water injection
are summed and the contingency added to the subtotal.
- The total seawater flow rate is the sum of the series and parallel flow rates.

4.2 COOLING MEDIUM

This spreadsheet calculates the total cooling medium circulation rate and the bulk cooling
medium return temperature and is based on the following:
- The cooling medium supply temperature and bulk cooling medium return
temperature are provided by the user. The bulk cooling medium return
temperature should be 55°C; refer to §18.2.2 of [2] . Cooling medium densities and
specific heat capacities are calculated based on the average of the cooling
medium supply and return temperatures.
- Provision is included to apply a contingency margin on the cooling medium flow
rate. A 10% contingency margin shall be applied in the early stages of design to
allow for growth in the cooling medium demand; refer to §5.2 of [1].
- For each cooling medium consumer, either a cooling water demand or a cooling
duty shall be provided but not both. The cooling water return temperature from
each consumer shall also be provided. For coolers, the spreadsheet will calculate
the required seawater demand as follows:

Q = q / cp / (T2 - T1) / ρ x 3600

Where; Q = Cooling medium volumetric flow rate (m3/h)

q = Cooling duty (kW)
cp = Average cooling medium specific heat capacity (kJ/kg.K)
T2 = Bulk cooling medium temperature (°C)
T1 = Cooling medium supply temperature (°C)
ρ = Average cooling medium density (kg/m3)

- The bulk cooling medium return temperature is calculated as follows:

T = ΣQnTn / Q

Where; T = Bulk cooling medium return temperature (°C)

Qn = Cooling medium volumetric flow rate for user “n” (m3/h)
Tn = Cooling medium return temperature for user “n” (°C)
Q = Total cooling medium volumetric flow rate (m3/h)

- The cooling medium duties and cooling medium flow rates are summed. The
contingency is added to the total flow rate.

4.3 HEATING MEDIUM

The basis for the heating medium consumption calculation is the same as for the cooling
medium consumption calculation; refer to §4.2.

4.4 OTHER UTILITIES

The calculation sheets for the other utilities simply involve a summation of the individual
consumer flow rates and a contingency then added to the subtotal.

5. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

5.1 SEAWATER

The purpose of this spreadsheet is to calculate the maximum seawater lift flow rate. This
might not be equivalent to either the maximum cooling duty case or the maximum water
injection duty case but may be an intermittent year. The Process Engineer should not
enter the maximum cooling duties coincident with the maximum water injection capacity if
these flow rates do not exist in reality. The Process Engineer should review the process
simulation results and the water injection profiles to determine which year results in the
highest seawater demand.

The following steps should be followed when using CAL-PR-012:

1. Enter the maximum seawater lift temperature and the maximum overboard
discharge temperature. Provide the seawater density and specific heat capacity at
these temperatures. Do not use fresh water properties; refer to the seawater
properties in the “Office of Saline Water Technical Data Book” provided as an
attachment to [3].
2. Consider provision of a design contingency; refer to §5.2 of [1] for guidance.
3. Enter the cooling medium cooler duty and the seawater return temperature for the
coolers in series with water injection and provide the equipment number. If a
sulphate removal package (SRP) is used and a cooling medium cooler is provided
downstream of the SRP then enter this additional cooling medium cooler duty and
the seawater return temperature under the seawater consumers in parallel with
water injection and provide the equipment number. The combined cooling medium

duty shall match the total cooling medium duty as calculated by the Cooling
Medium worksheet (refer to §5.2).
4. For each of the other seawater consumers provide either a flow rate or a duty.
Where the consumer is a cooler, the seawater return temperature should be set
equal to the seawater return temperature from the vendor or the maximum
seawater disposal temperature where vendor information is not available.

The following two cases should be considered as a minimum (note that these may be
coincident):

1. Cooling case coincident with production year in which water injection is a maximum.
This case may define the maximum seawater demand (refer to §5.2).
2. Maximum cooling case which will define the maximum cooling medium flow rate and
may define the maximum seawater demand (refer to §5.2).

5.2 COOLING MEDIUM

The purpose of this spreadsheet is to calculate the maximum cooling medium flow rate
and the maximum cooling duty.

The following steps should be followed when using CAL-PR-012:

2. Enter the maximum cooling medium supply temperature and the bulk cooling
medium return temperature. The bulk cooling medium return temperature should
be 55°C; refer to §18.2.2 of [2]. Provide the cooli ng medium density and specific
heat capacity at these temperatures. These properties should be obtained either
from steam tables or from HYSYS using the ASME Steam equation of state.
3. Consider provision of a design contingency; refer to §5.2 of [1] for guidance.
4. For each of the other cooling medium consumers provide either a flow rate or a
duty in which case the return temperature should also be specified.

The following two cases should be considered as a minimum (note that these may be
coincident):

1. Cooling case coincident with production year in which water injection is a maximum.
This case may define the maximum seawater demand (refer to §5.1).
2. Maximum cooling case which will define the maximum cooling medium flow rate and
may define the maximum seawater demand (refer to §5.1).

5.3 HEATING MEDIUM

The purpose of this spreadsheet is to calculate the maximum heating medium flow rate
and the maximum heating duty. Normally the maximum heating medium flow rate and the
maximum heating duty are the same operating case.

The following steps should be followed when using CAL-PR-012:

1. Enter the maximum heating medium supply temperature and the bulk cooling
medium return. A temperature decrease of 30°C from supply to return should be

considered; refer to §19.2.2 of [2]. Provide the heating medium density and
specific heat capacity at these temperatures. These properties should be obtained
either from steam tables or from HYSYS using the ASME Steam equation of state.
2. Consider provision of a design contingency; refer to §5.2 of [1] for guidance.
3. For each of the heating medium consumers provide either a flow rate or a duty in
which case a heating medium return temperature should be entered.
