COURSE PLAN

A. LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Students should have the basic understanding of concepts of logistics and supply chain. By
deeper exploration the course aims at equipping the students with the understanding of the
underlying theories and philosophies of the variety of concepts in the area of Global Logistics
and Supply Chain Management.

B. OBJECTIVES

a) Developing an understanding of the key concepts applied in Global Logistics and Supply Chain
Management.
b) To highlight the importance of globalization and how it is impacting the countries across the
globe.
c) To highlight the importance of all activities of the supply chain and an understanding of
concepts like inbound and outbound logistics, offshore and inshore logistics.
d) To highlight the various complexities involved in the international business.
e) To highlight the various types of risks in the global trading and how these risks could be
minimized.
f) How firm can achieve competitive advantage through IT applications?
g) How supply chain performance can be measured using various models?

Three components will be used for internal assessment for this course (Total 100 marks), the details of
each component is as follows:

a) Case Study: Students would be required to submit WAC (Written Analysis of Case) one day before the
case discussion in the class. Any two groups (Presenting group) would be randomly selected to present
the case and remaining students of the class would be required to ask questions to the presenting
group. Both the groups would be evaluated for 30 marks (30%) each as per the rubric.

b) Group Projects/Presentations: Total number of students is 78 therefore, 16 groups of five (5)

members each will be formed. Ideally, it should be mix of qualification background–
science/commerce/engineering/business administration and work experience etc. Each group should

have at least one female member. Students are encouraged to refer to the papers mentioned in the
course plan and other sources. The group would be evaluated for 40 marks(40%).

c) Quizzes: Two quizzes will be conducted, as per indicated in the Course Plan. Each quiz would be of
carrying 30% weightage. Therefore, average of the two test would carry 30% weightage i.e. 30 marks. It
may contain multiple choice questions or short questions/key terms covering modules as specified in
the course plan and Research paper/ cases covered in the course pack.

All members are required to be in proper uniform during the discussion and exhibit the conceptual and
practical knowledge discussing the fact and figures/contemporary or current issues. They are also
expected to be disciplined and video recording may be done for each group discussion.

Internal Assessment: Marks 100 (shall be done based on the following 4 components):

i) First Component : Written Analysis of Case to be submitted

All members to present the case analysis in the class as per schedule. (as mentioned in the course
plan) 30% weightage

ii) Second Component : Quizzes (2 no. per semester) 30% weightage (15 marks each)

First quiz will be conducted after the completion of 18 sessions and would cover the curriculum
covered in these sessions and would carry 15 marks.

2nd quiz would be conducted after the completion of 30 sessions and would cover the curriculum
covered in all the sessions and would have more weightage from the curriculum covered after 1st quiz
and will carry 15 marks.
Questions will be objective type – key terms/ fill in the blanks/MCQ/short questions.

iii) Third Component : Group Project (Live project) 40% weightage

Group presentation in the form of a ppt file and a report in word file needs to be submitted.

16 Groups would be formed for the Group Projects of 5 members each comprising of male and
female students, representing students from various backgrounds –
B.Tech/B.Com/B.Sc/BCA/BBA etc.

Each group would be required to select one topic for the group project for Internal Assessment.
Group Project will carry 40% weightage of the total Internal Assessment. Group presentations
would be taken beyond the time -table (scheduled classes on working Saturday/ after the
classes).

professionally.

o Any member absent during presentation may be allowed to repeat with deduction of 10%
marks with a medical/valid reason.

Students are required to have minimum attendance of 75% in each subject. Students with less than
said percentage shall not be allowed to appear in the end semester examination.

Cell Phones and other Electronic Communication Devices: Cell phones and other electronic
communication devices (such as Blackberries) are not permitted in classes, Tests or the Mid/Final
Examination. Such devices MUST be turned off and left at the front or back of the room.

E-Mail and LMS: Each student in the class should have an e-mail id and a pass word to access the
LMS system regularly. Occasionally, important information to the class will be transmitted via e-
mail/LMS. The best way to arrange meetings with us or ask specific questions is by email. The
Course plan, study materials and Group presentation topics would be loaded in LMS system for
student benefit.

H. Instructions

a) Students are expected to pre read the session’s contents in advance before coming to
the class.
b) The session will be made interactive through active participation from students. The
entire session will be conducted through question-answer, discussion, current practices,
examples, problem solving, activities and presentations etc.
c) In the case study session all students are expected to prepare their analysis and
answers/decisions in their respective groups. Any group may be asked to present their
views and defend the same.
