Kulam Tank
1) Preamble:
The design note highlights the design aspects of Cross-section and Stability of
Earthern Embankment for SV Kulam Tank located at Tamilnadu.
2) Introduction:
It is proposed to rejenuvate the existing SV Kulam Tank at Tamilnadu. For this it
is proposed to modify the existing embankment and carry out the stability
analysis of proposed embankment.
3) Design Approach:
To Store the water in SV Kulam tank it is proposed to construct the
embankment with zoned section. Zoned embankment is provided with centrally
impervious core i.e. Hearting zone, covered by comparatively pervious casing
zone. The central impervious zone checks the seepage, and outer zone gives
stability to the central impervious fill and also distribute the load over area of
foundation.

There are two forces acting at a point called as normal force and tangential
force
Normal force acting at a point is called resisting force
Tangential Force acting at a point is called Driving Force
