Constitution of Aegis

These are the foundational and sustaining rights, laws, practices, principles, and liberties
of Aegis. Their purpose is to provide a fair and functional environment for all members.
Their purpose is not to restrict freedoms, but rather to establish a firm basis from which
our freedoms and cooperative forms can continue and thrive peaceably.

Rights and Liberties of Aegis:

1. All members of Aegis have the right to freedom of expression, however, this excludes
direct, unnecessary, and/or unwarranted personal insults, flaming or trolling to the
extent of harassment, threats, or other slanderous, or predatory actions, or remarks
which by their nature are against the principle of Fraternity.

2. All members are to respect the property rights of other members; there is to be no
griefing, raiding, or theft of the property of any individual or group.

3. Members are not to kill or attack one another, unless in mutually agreed upon
combat.

4. All members are able to vote on and propose bills or other legislation so long as they
do not infringe upon the rights or liberties outlined in this constitution.

5. However, in regards to 4., this must also be balanced with the right of groups and
members to have freedom from politics. Bills and other proposed legislation must be
exceedingly and conspicuously warranted and based on imperatives such as security,
stability, or vital advancement.

6. Group leaders are also, of course, free to dictate their own rules within their group, so
long as they are not inherently at odds with the fundamental functional elements of
Aegis, primarily the rights and liberties listed here, along with the principles they
embody - within reason.

7. All members have freedom of assembly and movement and may loiter, congregate, or
visit any public, non-regulated areas of Aegis at any time.

8. All groups have a right to privacy. Members are not to enter another group's base
without consent.
9. All members have the right to freedom from taxation. While charity is welcomed,
Aegies will not under any circumstances collect taxes or pass legislation which includes
the collection of taxes.

10. Members have the right to bear arms. Also, Aegis can keep a volunteer militia, as it
may be necessary to the security of our free alliance, but no one can be compelled
legally to join.

11. Those who violate these rules have the right to due process of law, including being
considered innocent until proven guilty, the right to remain silent, the right to legal
counsel and representation, as well as to a speedy and fair trial involving a jury of at
least 3 peers, a mediator, and a judge.

12. Laws are to be applied impartially. Sentencing is to be decided upon by the judge in
collaborative discussion with the jury and mediator; the decisions also set a legal
precedent.

13. Aegis or any members authorized to act on its behalf may not discriminate against
alliance members based on group, race, name, sex, race, religion, in-group status,
membership in a particular group, playstyle, or personality, (the last two unless they
pertain directly to a role the member is being asked to or offering to fill). We are a
meritocracy.

14. Aegis has the right to establish an Advisory Committee, and to elect ministers into
said committee, as well as a Prime Minister. Members of Aegis have the right to initiate
their own election for any minister position or to suggest others if it is consensual, as
well as to vote in their election. The purposes of the ministers, including the prime
minister, are to motivate, advocate for the advancement of their respective areas for the
overall betterment of Aegis, suggest potential policy and direction for the consideration
of all members, guide, advise, and coordinate activities in their respective fields if
multiple groups are cooperating on a project under their purview (if this is consented to),
and in the case of the prime minister, be a figurehead for the alliance and act as the
judge in judicial matters. The actual enactment of policy, however, we suggest, should be
kept to a minimum, and be generally non-invasive, in accordance with 5.

15. Ministers, once elected, must hold an election for their office once every three
months.

16. If members end up in conflict with one another, and are having seemingly difficulty
resolving it, or if a member feels they were grievously wronged by another to the point
that they feel it important to bring the member to justice, they have the right to file an
official complaint with Aegis and to have their case heard in court. In these personal
cases the accused cannot be compelled to attend the hearing against their will –
however, it is suggested as it will likely help in their defense - and all other rights to due
process of law as described above are, of course, in effect.

Membership in Aegis

Membership already naturally applies to members who are already members, some of
whom were voted in, others were not, but in that case they were members before
voting was ratified, and so were officially grandfathered in regardless. However, all new
members as of the completion of this document, must:

1. Be voted in by the majority of the members.

2. Be added to the Discord server (if possible).

2. Swear an oath to Aegis, its constitution, and their group; this must be witnessed by
either a group leader, a minister or the prime minister.

Principles

Aegis pledges itself to the tripartite principles of:

1. Liberty: We seek fundamental freedoms and protections - the right to the pursuit of
happiness unburdened by unjust obstacles.

2. Equality: Every member of Aegis has the same rights and will be treated equally in the
eyes of the law and state. There will be no discrimination based on any of the above
mentioned arbitrary (13.) categorizations, nor on any other.

3. Fraternity: Aegis has banded together to voluntarily and peaceably cooperate and
exist together. Groups and members are expected to, at least to some degree, have
Aegis's best interests at heart. While participation, charity, volunteering or the assistance
of other groups or members are not to be prescribed or enforced in any way, it is indeed
encouraged. Though, again, everyone is welcome to have their own playstyle, and will
not be judged if they are more of an individualist group or member. We also hope to
stick together, and to this effect:

3a. Aegis will decide, via voting, on an official alliance server to promote alliance
cohesion so we may continue to enjoy one another's company and support.
