Section A: Directed Writing

[35 marks]

[Time suggested: 45 minutes]

Your family is planning to go for a holiday at the end of the year. Your brother/sister has asked
you to choose either to stay in a hotel or a homestay. He/She has given you some information
about the .two places. Write a letter to your brother/sister stating your choice.

In your letter, you should:

• describe all the details of the two places

• state which place you think is more suitable

Section B: Continuous Writing

Write a composition of about 350 words on one of the following topics.

1. Your birthday is approaching and your parents intend to give you a birthday present. What
would you like to have?

Explain your choice.

2. Write a story where your action helped to save someone's life.

In your story, give details of the incident and state the lessons that you have learnt.

3. Co-curricular activities help to instil leadership qualities in students.

Do you agree? Give reasons to support your view.

4. Write a story about a teenager whose hard work and determination helped him to win a
competition .

End your story with:

" ..... He jumped with joy as all his hard work and determination had paid off.

5. Describe your first experience with online shopping.

You should write about what you bought and your feelings.
