EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
After did my internship in ETABLISSEMENT DIFFO ET FILS, i can say that it was very good
for me because I have learnt many things like;

*How tools are mounted on the differents manufacturing machines(lathe machine, drilling
machine and milling machine)

*I learn that before manufacturing any pieces , the first thing to do is to take its drawing

*I learn how to carry out calculation to obtain a conic shaft

*Today because of that internship ,I capable to parameter a lathe machine for a threading
operation. As other any work, manufacturing work is too difficult and poses the problems
between them and between the customers. This internship helped me to know how I can gain the
job in the society and how I can be a head of service somewhere in the company. However via
this internship I learnt how I can be a business. Therefore, since the period of internship is one
month, among the trainees others did but one or two week and need the marks, others transform
their own to a payable internship while others refused to attain internship and proceed to buy the
mark to the company.

INTRODUCTION
An internship is a short period during which somebody or students who have specialized training
acquires pre-professional experience, which provides an opportunity to gain relevant knowledge
and skills prior to starting out in a particular career field in order to get extra job in the society.
Internship are relatively short-term in nature with the primary focus on getting of the job training
acquired in the classroom to the practical experience in the real working tasks and evaluate the
interns overall performance.
Internship enables the school to achieve its goal and objective since it’s provide practical
knowledge to help complete the learning cycle of the student the evaluation form helps the
school to evaluate the students’ performance during the internship Again it gives the school
assurance that it is sending out professionals.

However, I am one of the student teacher in MECHANICAL MANUFACTRING in the

University of Bamenda (ENSET- Bambili), I went through a period of internship at
ETABLISSEMENT DIFFO ET FILS. This period of internship started on the 03 August and
ended on the 31August of 2016. This internship was aimed at providing me with valuable
insights into the professional and practical in the mechanical manufacturing .

This report is a summary of what observed, learnt, did during my period of industrial training in
order to increase my level of work. This internship report is divided in three chapters as
following:

Chapter One: General presentation of mechanical manufacturing

Chapter two: Activity training during the internship period
Chapter three: conclusion, learning outcome, critique and suggestion, references and appendices

In the “Ets DIFFO Et FILS” enterprise, there is one department (the department of mechanical
engineering) which is comprised of two trait which are: mechanical manufacturing and sheet
metal. The domain of mechanical manufacturing has to do with the forming or creation of parts
through processes like: forming, casting and designing and repair of worn out pieces while the
domain of sheet metal has to do with production of different shape from the various products
from the manufacturing trait. They use methods like making out and welding techniques.
However, the domain of mechanical manufacturing involves that of sheet metals.

I.7.5. Comments on the organizational chart

1. The general manager of “Ets DIFFO Et FILS” enterprise is the most important personal
of the structure; he is the one who gains the market, control the structure and do the
delicate work like cutting teeth wheel in milling machine. He takes the work and shear to
different service and he is also the one who buys the raw materials for everything except
otherwise in his absence.
2. The assistants of the manager are there to coordinate the work in the workshop mostly
when manager is not there.
3. The employee is there to respect instructions and do what he is demanded to do.
4. In term of service, manufacturing service carry operation like turning, drilling, milling
and pressing while sheet metal is doing welding and the both form the maintenance in

01 grindings machine. The person responsible of the workshop is M. DIFFO.

II. CHAPTER TWO: TRAINING PROGRAM

II.1. INTRODUCTION OF THE AREA OFFICE OF THE

ORGANIZATION WHERE I DID MY INTERNSHIP

After depositing my recommendation letter at the “Ets DIFFO Et FILS” enterprise, and being
permitted to carry out my internship there, I arrived there on Tuesday the second of August 2016.
On arrival, I was introduced to the other workers and I took off for work. In the workshop, there
is a lathe machine, two hydraulic press machines, one bench type utility grinding machine, one
power hack saw, one drilling machine, and two welding posts. All the workers in the workshop
are permitted to use any of these machines when need arises.

II.2. STARTING AND ENDING DATES OF MY INTERNSHIP.

As stipulated by the school, internship normally had to start on Monday first August 2016. Due
to examination malpractices in school, internees were held back to rewrite on that Monday thus
prevented the internees from moving forward with their internship activities. Student were thus
forced to start the internship on Tuesday the second of August 2016.

Knowing so well that the internship was meant for one month, my internship ended at the
beginning of the month of September.

Thus I started my internship activities on Wednesday the 3rd of August 2016 and ended on
Wednesday 31th of August 2016.
II.3. STARTING AND CLOSING TIMES

Working hours start from seven o’clock in the morning (7:00 AM) to thirty minutes pass six in
the evening (6:00PM). Workers `are expected to be in the workshop at or before this time.

II.4. NAME OF THE DEPARTMENT(S) IN WHICH I GOT TRAINING

AND THE DURATION OF MY TRAINING IN EACH OF THE
DEPARTMENTS

The “Ets DIFFO Et FILS” enterprise has one departments which can be divided into two options
which are mechanical manufacturing and sheet metal.
I actually got training from the two departments available in the enterprise. I received equal
training in the two field thank to the fact that they were in the same workshop. I received full
training in this department for a total of four weeks out of which one was observation and care of
machine (sanity of the machines) and tools or equipment translocation.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT DURING INTERNSHIP

Week one(wednesday 03 to Saturday 06 august 2016)

I was welcome in the company as an intern we were involved to clean the

environment and machines, then we start maintenance on a cement mixer, we

change the out case of the mixer. We change the cylinder of a propeller shaft ,

we dismount bearing, and we weld piece of vehicle.

Week two(Monday 08 to Saturday 13 august 2016)

Manufacturing of a threaded shaft for a special grinding machine, the

threaded shaft is use to change the position of the grinder it can move up

and down.

Threading of the internal diameter of a circular plat.

Threading of the internal diameter of two cylinders, they are to be attach on

the tank of fire fighter care .

Week tree(tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 august 2016)

Drilling of 4 square plat, 6 holes where drill with diameter 18 drill.

Manufacturing of dappled. Manufacturing of two pressure screws , fabrication

of a bolt.

Week four(Monday 22 to Saturday 27 august 2016)

We cut tubes to arrange 64 things of the bakery “philière”, we weld those tubes to

link then together by forming a square. We also realize a stand: it is used to put

cake of marriage, we reduce the diameter of the shaft of this stand using lathe

machine. We had cutting and chambering a long threaded bare in small length

of 75mm and a nut being thigh on it to form a bolt . Machining of a

threaded bare two nut where thigh on it to form a bold . Manufacturing of a

dowel use on a refrigerant wish is a system of cooling the engine of a ship.

Week five (Monday 29 to Saturday 31 August 2016)

Reducing the length of and hexagonal head screws and increasing the length of the

thread, there were about 200 screws.

Chapter 3: CONCLUSION

CONCLUSION

I can say it has been beneficial for me because I

acquired few practical experiences as far as mechanic in general is concerned. It help me to
adapt theory I am acquiring in HTTTC to practice. It also allow me to develop my
professional and personal skills, human relationship and interpersonal communication with
other which whom I was doing the internship. Despite the difficulties the workshop is going
through, it has the potential to train young people as far as mechanic is concerned.
I have gained enough in doing this internship and since it permit me to adapt theory to
practice. As teacher I must be knowledgeable theoretically and practically as well; ” for
Theory without practice is empty”. It is from this view that I suggest the following ideas:
That HTTTC Bambili should adapted to the technologic evolution by providing to
their student-teachers the work shop for practical, so that they shall be more efficient
once out.

RECOMMANDATIONS

That the manager of Ets Diffo Et Fils should continuous to offer opportunity
to student to attend their internship .
That my supervisor should continuous to cooperate with his trainers by giving them
some good advices and techniques they need to improve practically also to establish
practical rules to manage his workshop as far as stealing and spoiling of tools and
machine is concerned. That is:
- Each student before getting a tool should write down a list of all the tools he want
to use and at the end when coming to give back, the manager checked first if each
tool is present before allowing him to leave.
-Tool collected by the workers should be control everyday at the end of the day to reduce

carelessness.

-Every worker should specialize on it department.

-The manager of ETABLISSEMENT DIFFO ET FILS should provide a day every week for

maintenance of various machine.

-A well specialize department should be provided from design office to the method office and

to the fabrication shop. So to increase the production and high quality of the manufacturing

product.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

During my stay in the Workshop of Ets Diffo Et Fils, discover so many things and
gains experience as far as mechanical manufacturing is concerned. That is:
I have learned that before operating on machine I need to check first whether all the
functionalities of the machine are ready.
I have also learned that it is compulsory to wear security equipment like helmet; tied
cloth, gloves and safety shoes.
I learned and understood how the lathe function. Since we have dismounted many of
the lathe machine, I understand small all the functionalities of the lathe.
I have learned how to calculate and came out with appropriate dimensions in order to
machine a spur gear. We usually do calculation theoretically but to practice is another
things and I have learned how adapt theory to practice.
While doing the internship, my supervisor allocated to me the responsibility to deal only with the
lathe machine. And it has been my work during all my stay in that workshop to do
maintenance on the lathe machine.
With the technological course in acquired in HTTTC I success a bit to match theory to
practical. That is I could identify different mechanical components that I had never seen
before. From that I better understood what was still dark in my mind. For example in Analysis
Manufacturing course in HTTTC I learn theoretically the different machining operation like
facing, turning, chamfering, threading. But during my internship I learned how to perform
it practically.
My internship permit me to understand in a deeper manner what mechanical manufacturing is all
about. It permit to further understand that it is a work of precision because having only
a lack of 0.1mm on the required dimension can causes the piece not to function in a mechanism.
