VILLAGE OF MAYWOOD

Madison Street Resurfacing Improvements

September 11, 2018

Dear Maywood Resident:

The Village is about to begin a major roadway resurfacing project that will include roadway and
drainage improvements to Madison Street from First Avenue to the Des Plaines River. The Village
will receive Federal Funding as part of the Surface Transportation Program to cover 80% of the
construction costs. In all, the Village will receive up to a maximum of $547,000 to construct the
project.

The contractor is ready to begin working on the project the week of September 10 th, and the project
is anticipated to take approximately 2 months to reach substantial completion.

PROJECT SCOPE

The improvements to Madison Street from First Avenue to the Des Plaines River will include
repairing certain sections of the sewer and drainage structures, intermittent replacement of the
concrete curb and gutter, handicap accessible sidewalk ramps, and replacement of certain
sidewalks. The pavement will be patched at certain areas, and then resurfaced with two (2) lifts of
hot-mix asphalt. Thermoplastic pavement markings will be installed, and damaged areas of the
parkway will receive new sod.

The contractor intends to first begin with replacement of certain manholes, catch basins, and storm
sewers.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

The contractor will pass out a notice to residents/businesses approximately 24 hours prior to
performing any work that will interrupt access to driveway aprons. Certain lane closures of the
street will need to occur during the day to allow for the installation of the improvements.
Generally, the lanes will be re-opened to local traffic after work hours.

The contractor will pass out notice again when he begins work on the curb and gutter and
sidewalks, as well as the pavement patches. Certain businesses will not have access to their
driveway aprons while the curb and gutter, or pavement patches are being installed and curing.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS

During certain phases of work, Greenwood Avenue as well as Orchard Avenue may need to be
closed at Madison Street for a period of up to several days. Residents may enter and exit their
properties via Legion Street or Wilcox Street as needed at that time. Additionally, Greenwood
Avenue will be converted to “two-way” traffic at that time.

GARBAGE COLLECTION

We do not anticipate that garbage collection will be affected. Residents may continue to place
garbage cans as usual, and the contractor will assist in ensuring the garbage is removed. However,
notice will be given to all affected residents if any changes in service are necessary once work
begins.
