WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17, 2018

Our second annual Irish Gala will be upon us before we know
it. I will include information about this event in my weekly e-
mail. Students will be preparing a piece of art for the gala. Please help us to make our

MATH ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Students will continue to put to-
gether the multiplication section
of their interactive math notebook. We will do
more skip counting, work with equal groups
and learn about arrays as strategies for multi-
plying numbers. We will also make some
flash cards for the 2 and 5 times tables. Stu-
dents will learn how to utilize wrap-arounds
to help them practice their times tables.
Please practice their basic addition and sub-
traction facts with them. They will need to
have a good grasp of these facts in order to do
well in adding and subtracting greater num-
bers and regrouping. Tutoring for math is
available on Mondays from 3:30-4:30.
This week’s spelling unit is words with the
abstract vowels of ou and oi. All students are
either using the Musketeer list or the Ami-
go’s list. No students are using the Caballero
list which is from the textbook. We will use
the textbook to help with phonics as well as
language activities. In language, we will
learn more about plurals, verbs, complete
sentences and kinds of sentences. In reading,
students will be reading different genres of
fiction as well as recognize main ideas and
supporting details. They also be given their
probe book assignment this week. Tutoring
for reading is available on Tuesdays from
3:30-4:30.

HANDWRITING
Students have begun to practice some cursive letters and will begin
copying poems and phrases from the board for more practice.
 SCIENCE-This week students will describe and show the moon’s
movement around the earth and the characteristics of the
moon.
RELIGION-Students will learn that Jesus will come again and
will be able to describe Jesus’s story of the Last Judgment. This
week’s Word of the Week is –slave-person who performs duties
for others. This Week’s Good News comes from Mark 9:35.
SOCIAL STUDIES-This week students will learn about the geog-
raphy and history of different communities starting with El Paso
and continuing with Astoria, Oregon and Timbuktu, Africa and
compare them.

REMINDERS
The only drop off is on Stanton Street. The Arizona parking lot is not a
drop off. Parents need to park and walk students to the school at the
crosswalk if they are using the parking lot. The lot behind the gym and
the church is also not to be used to drop off students. Thank you, in ad-
vance, for your cooperation!
