the financial year 2017-18.

5. RBI directed all SCBs with more than 10 branches to appoint an


internal ombudsman for a maximum tenure of five years. RRBs are not
included in this directive. This direction of RBI is under ‘Internal
Ombudsman Scheme, 2018’ which gives ombudsman statutory
powers under section 35 A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

6. HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company announced the launch of


‘E@Secure’, a Cyber Insurance Policy for individuals.

7.  Recently a financial assistance of Rs. 929.89 crore for Shimla


water supply and sewerage project was approved by the World Bank.

8.  Prime Minister launched the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB)
with a capital of Rs 14.35 billion at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi. IPPB
branches have opened across 650 districts and 3,250 access points. IPPB
has partnered with PNB and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance for third-
party products like loans and insurance.

9. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has asked banks to


set Bank Aadhaar Kendras in one out of every 10 branches.

10. According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data, Mauritius was top
source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into India in 2017-18 followed
by Singapore.

6.  Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and


Empowerment attended the 3rd ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting)
Conference on ‘Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons’
held on 5th to 7th September 2018, in Seoul, South Korea.

7.  6th East Asia Summit- Economic Ministers’ Meeting (EAS-EMM)


and 15th India-ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM) were held in
Singapore. Suresh Prabhu represented India in the summit.

9.  Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Defence & Homeland Security

13.  Kathmandu, Nepal recently hosted the fourth Bay of Bengal
Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation
(BIMSTEC) summit. The theme of the summit was ‘Towards a Peaceful
Prosperous, and Sustainable Bay of Bengal Region’.

14.  Minister of State, (IC), for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik, inaugurated
the fourth International Ayurveda Congress (IAvC) held in Leiden,
Netherlands. The Congress was jointly organized by International
Maharishi Ayurveda Foundation, Netherlands; All India Ayurvedic Congress,
New Delhi.

1.  Supreme Court approved a scheme that


grants a compensation of minimum Rs 4
lakh and maximum Rs 7 lakh to the survivors
of rape and sexual assault. The scheme was
framed by the National Legal Services Authority
(NALSA) in consultation with the Centre.

2.  Minister of External Affairs Sushma


Swaraj and Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitharaman held a 2+2
Dialogue with US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and
Secretary of Defence James N. Mattis to India for the inaugural India-
U.S. Ministerial 2+2 Dialogue.

3. Supreme Court decriminalized part of the law under Section 377


of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) which criminalizes consensual unnatural
sex.

4. Maryland-based Lockheed Martin announced that the wings of F-


16 Block 70 fighter jets will be produced in India as a part of Make in
India‘ initiative.
