TERTIARY DENTIN

Can be tubular or atubular

TUBULAR: When compared to regular secondary dentin tubular


reactionary dentin has

1) Less tubules
2) Tubules are very tortuous
3) More twisted and wavy
4) More collagen fibres

ATUBULAR: Formed more rapidly than tubular type, to a response


stronger than that cost production of tubular dentin.

Rate of formation is 3-5µ per day

Tubules are absent

Sometimes odontoblast may be entrapped in the forming dentin.
