You and your group comprising 4-5 individuals are required to conduct research and
identify the key issues, challenges and opportunities of the case study firm. Applying
relevant knowledge and understanding of the case study organisation you are
required to develop a business model which in your opinion enables the case study
organisation to be competitive and profitable. You will be given details of the case
study organisation by your lecturer/tutor.

This will involve developing original and creative responses to the identified
challenges facing the case study firm. This business model redesign process also
requires using a variety of creativity tools particularly the Business Model Canvas,
and practical application of knowledge and experience acquired from the module in
solving business problems. Each group should then produce a report of 3000 word
count of this analysis.

Case Study

British Telecom

Telecommunications provider, British Telecom, has enjoyed phenomenal success


since its beginnings as the UK’s nationalised telecoms provider through its
privatisation to the present day. However, a number of difficulties have faced the
company including financial irregularities in its Italian business, problems with its
subsidiary, Open reach that owns the cables that form the network, and a generally
tough trading environment. How would you advise the board of British Telecom to
thrive in the face of the recent issues it has faced?

Business Model Canvas you are required to develop a business model which in your
opinion enables the case study organisation to be competitive and profitable. This
will involve an understanding of the case study organisation’s environment and
developing original and creative responses to the identified challenges facing the
case study firm. This business model redesign process also requires practical
application of knowledge and experience acquired from the module in solving
business problems. Each group should then produce a report of 3000 word count
(excluding references) of this analysis.

Note: The nature of this module suggests that each group’s approach to the
summative assessment might vary considerably. However, please use the previous
guidelines to assist your approach.

You are required to undertake an individual coursework based on a reflection of your


own personal development. This involves showing an understanding and identifying
evidence of creativity and problem solving skills gained from the lectures, workshops
and group work. While developing the reflective log, you will be required to explain
and reflect on the module activities of each topic as well as the effectiveness of the
group and your role within the team. Finally, you should identify key areas that you
want to develop, e.g. problem solving skills, leadership skills, management skills,
influencing skills, organisation skills etc.
