New York, NY, September 12, 2018 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Myrna L. Fischman, CPA of New York, New
York has been honored as a Woman of Empowerment by P.O.W.E.R. (Professional Organization of
Women of Excellence Recognized) for her outstanding contributions and achievements for over 50 years
in the fields of finance and education.
Dr. Fischman has had a successful career as a private practice accountant. She gained experience as
Community Fellowship and Chief Accountant and Investigator of Rackets at the office of the Queens
District Attorney. She served as an Instructor of Accounting at the Borough of Manhattan Community
College, a Teacher of the Accounting Center at Commercial High School in New York and Assistant
Controller at Sam Goody, Inc.
Currently, Dr. Fischman serves on the Banking and Higher Education Committees. Her prior committee
affiliations include the Nomination Committee, the Higher Education Committee (Chair), the
Membership Committee, the Cooperation with Financial Media Committee, the Public Relations
Committee, the Membership Task Force, the Promoting CPA Careers Committee, the Education in
Colleges and Universities Committee and the Internal Auditors Committee. At the chapter level, Dr.
Fischman previously served as treasurer, executive board member and chair of the Federal & State Tax
Committee.
Dr. Fischman is a member of the NYSSCPA Society and is past president of its Brooklyn chapter. She
also has served on the organization's board of directors. She is Special Director of the Leo Schloss Fund
and Director of the Center for Accounting and Tax Education, and currently serves on the FAE LIU
COAP Advisory Board. Prior service includes the FAE Scholarship Awards Committee ant he board of
the Political Action Committee (Brooklyn Chapter Representative). In additions, she is past president of
both the New York Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants and the New York Chapter of
the Institute of Management Accountants.
Among her numerous accomplishments, Dr. Fischman developed a new business machine course and
curriculum at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, brought a Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance IRS program to the LIU-Brooklyn campus and created the Center for Accounting and Tax
Education (CATE) which brings continuous professional education to practicing accountants and now
also offers continuing law education to attorneys. She developed articulation agreements with the

Borough of Manhattan Community College, Kingsborough Community College and New York Technical
Community College and also developed a 150-hour BS/MS accounting program for the LIU-Brooklyn
campus, the CW Post campus and the Southampton College campus, which is approved by the NYS
Education Department for preparation for the CPA exam. She also introduced courses in fraud using
materials from the Association of Fraud Examiners. Myrna established the Myrna L. Fischman
Excellence in Accounting Scholarship to provide financial aid to deserving candidates so they can enter
the profession.
Memberships and affiliations for Dr. Fischman include NYSSCPA, FAE, AICPA, AAA, IMA, and AGA.
She was the Editor of the Delta Pi Epsilon Annual Yearbook, a Reviewer for 'The CPA Journal” and
author of “Who will teach our Future CPAs?” published in “Trusted Professional.”
Dr. Fischman has received numerous awards. They include being the recipient of the Community Service
Society Award in 1969, The Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from 1994-1995
and the Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptimist International in 1997. She received the Director's
Award from the Department of the Treasury, IRS in 2000 and earned an award from the Treasury-Internal
Revenue Service-Stakeholder Partnerships in Education & Communication for 40 Years of Service to the
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
Born to Isidore and Sally Fischman on July 29th in New York City, New York, Myrna attended CUNY to
earn a B.S. and M.S. in 1964. She became certified to be a Public Accountant by the State of New York.
She later obtained a Ph.D. from New York University.
Myrna supports her community through contributions to the Emanu-El El League of the Temple
Emanu-El in New York, the Jewish Guild for the Blind, the Jewish Braille Institute, the Community
Welfare Committee Association, Friends of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Friends of the American
Ballet Theatre and the Woman's City Club. In her spare time she enjoys reading and dancing.
