Dear Parents,

This month is Hispanic Heritage Month. Since we have such a variety of cultures in our
class, I have decided to combine all of them in this month and celebrate our uniqueness
through a special project. Each student will go home and research his or her background.
With your help, they can discover where their ancestors came from, how enriching their
heritage is to others and have an opportunity to share with classmates and parents. Their
research is to be saved on the pen drive. I encourage students to follow the guideline
questions provided and include interesting facts of their heritage. This is a writing
project, so pictures may be included but the content of their information is what is
being evaluated.

The following information should be included in their presentation:

 What is your background/heritage?
 What is your culture’s typical music, clothing, holidays, customs, etc.
 Name famous people who have contributed to society from your culture.
 Do you have family living in your foreign country?
 Are the traditions and customs of your country currently observed in your home?
(Like special holidays – religious or not)
 Is education different here in the U.S. than in your country? If so, how?

The students may bring different objects pertaining to their heritage to share with the
class. This will help the visual presentation in our classroom. It is great for other students
who are not familiar with their classmates’ heritage. Some objects they can bring are:
pictures, coins, money, jewelry, typical clothing, music, etc. If you or your child would
like to share a hidden talent, for example; write a poem, sing a song about their country,
or plays an instrument, you are more than welcome.

All information and objects are due October 1st. We will have a special presentation
on October 14th. The students will present their research and objects from their culture.
You are cordially invited to attend. It will begin at 1:30 pm. This would be a wonderful
opportunity for our class to be exposed to different cultures.
