PERFORMANCES TEST PROCEDURE

Revision N°0

Warning: This procedure is written before the first start-up of the UNIT. AXENS
reserves the right to modify or to adapt this procedure after the start-up of the UNIT in
order to incorporate the experience learned during the start-up.

1 GUARANTEES
This document has been prepared in accordance with the requirements expressed in
the Technology Transfer Contract N°0002.

The target of the Performances Test is to determine if the Unit meets the guarantees
defined in the TTC mentioned above. The duration of the test is 120 consecutive
hours unless mutual agreement is reached in case of interruption of the test. The list
of the guarantees is summarized below.

PRODUCT TEST will be performed in max distillate mode.

Provided the “CHARGE” is having the specifications listed below as per Technology
Transfer Contract N°2 page 12 Appendix 8, the test run should be performed with
Bach Ho crude or Mixed crudes.

1.2 Performance Guarantee :

Unit design capacity: 407 Tons/h

1.3 Catalyst Guarantee :

The annual consumption of the catalyst, on a dry basis, shall not exceed 1900
Tons/year for Bach Ho residue and 6000 Tons/year for mixed crudes residue
considering an equilibrium metals content no more than 8000 wt ppm for Bach Ho
case and 10000 wt ppm for mixed crudes case.

This annual consumption will be calculated based on the amount of fresh catalyst
injected during the Test Run divided by 120 hours and multiplied by 8000 hours.

1.4 Utilities Consumptions guarantees:

Process cooling water, process steam, heat absorbed on process side for fired
heaters should not be higher than 112 % of the corresponding figures specified in the
BED Package. Refer to RFCC Process Data Book section 1.6 –volume 2/6 for
utilities balances.

2 TEST PROCEDURE.
As soon as the Unit is stabilized and when the equilibrium catalyst of the R2R Unit is
considered as representative of the fresh catalyst make-up, it is possible to prepare
the PERFORMANCE TEST.

Note: before starting Performances test, all on-line analyzers must be correctly
calibrated.

2.1 Preparation of the PERFORMANCE TEST.

As the feed storage tanks are too small to ensure that there will be enough feed
available to operate at maximum capacity during more than 7 days, two days before
the planned beginning of the Test Run, the UNIT will be fed from a storage tank
previously filled with atmospheric residue produced by the CDU.

The atmospheric residue produced by the CDU will continue to be fed in this storage
tank which will be used as a kind of buffer tank to avoid too important variations of
feed composition.

Be sure that no other product can be fed or withdrawn from the buffer tank.

The capacity of the UNIT is adjusted to 419.2 m3/h (103% of the design capacity)
and the UNIT operating conditions are adjusted in accordance with the mode of
operation chosen by the LICENSEE for the test: Bach Ho or mixed crudes mode.

During two days AXENS adjusts the UNIT. Laboratory facilities should be available
during this time.

Material balances and product analysis are performed according to the method for
material balance calculations and to the program of analysis developed below.

It is then possible to check the UNIT performances and to adjust the operating
conditions to meet the guarantees. It is also possible to check the refinery laboratory
possibilities and to adapt the analysis program.

The PERFORMANCE TEST can be started only when the UNIT is in stable
conditions and when both parties agree to start it.

Once it is confirmed that the UNIT is able to meet the guarantees the
PERFORMANCE TEST can be considered.

2.2 Performance Test

The readings will be taken directly from the DCS of the UNIT using the Honeywell
system data collect.

2.3 Results of PERFORMANCE TEST

When all data are taken and when all the analysis results are available it is possible
to calculate the material balances (See method of calculation §4) and the average
product properties.

Tél : 33 (0) 1 47 14 21 00
Fax : 33 (0) 1 47 14 25 00
www.axens.net

The unit capacity and products yields will be the averages of the material balances.

The product properties will be the averages of the results of the analysis.

A report will be issued by AXENS mentioning the comparison between the results of
the PERFORMANCE TEST and the guarantees and containing:
• Analysis reports
• Data sheets
• Material balance calculations
• Utilities balance
• Conclusions

3 ANALYSIS

3.1 Samples
Two samples will be taken at each time except for gas and LPG samples where only
one sample will be taken. One sample will be used for analysis, the other one will be
kept in a cool storage place and protected from sun light especially for gasoline
samples where MON and RON are determined. This second sample will be used in
case it is necessary to perform a second analysis. They can be discarded once the
PERFORMANCE TEST report has been accepted.

An additional sample of one litter will be taken for the following products in order to
constitute a composite sample by mixing, at the end of the PERFORMANCE TEST.
This composite sample can be used later in case of any problems concerning feeds
or product qualities.
• Fresh feed
• Gasoline
• LCO
• CLO

Fresh make-up catalyst and equilibrium catalyst samples of 10 kg each will be taken
during the test.

3.2 Analysis program

See analysis program in Annex 1.

3.3 Analysis accuracy

The analysis accuracy is mentioned in the method used.

4 FLOW MEASUREMENTS / MATERIAL BALANCE

Operating data shall be recorded on an hourly average basis starting 24 hours before
the test begins (stable operation established).

The record will be obtained from the historical data logger and presented in the form
of an electronic file in excel format.

The Plant Performance Test Run Data will be obtained/calculated using the data from
the Data Logs.

4.1 Flow measurement correction

• For orifice flow meters a correction is made by using standard formulas for
density for liquids and for pressure, temperature and molecular weight for
gases.
• Flow summarizaters on liquid are corrected for temperature.
• Storage tanks, when possible, to validate FQI corrected for temperature.

Note: Make sure that no foreign products can be added in the product storage tanks
and that no product can be withdrawn from the storage tanks.

4.2 Mass Balance

The method to perform the Material Balance consists in determining the amount of
products entering the unit and the amount of product leaving the unit.

For the particular case of the RFCC unit, as it is not possible to measure the two flue
gas flow rates, the amount of coke burned in the regenerators is calculated by using

Page 7 sur 13

Tél : 33 (0) 1 47 14 21 00

www.axens.net

a method based on the flow rates of air entering the regenerators and on the two flue
gas analysis. This amount of coke is considered as a product leaving the unit.

It is checked that the weight of products entering the unit is equal to the weight of
product leaving the unit. The percentage of the ratio of the 2 quantities is called the
accuracy of the material balance.
