А002М LIGHT AUTOGYRO

GENERAL INFORMATION
Autogyro is a flying machine with MR which rotates under the influence of incoming air
flow and creates lift. An engine serves for producing lift. Lift provides forward movement of the
machine.
Modern autogyros of industrial construction perfectly blend in with the existing conception
of general aviation according to which the light, accident-free and reliable flying machines are to
form the majority of rotary wing aircraft.
Autogyro has a variety of features which are not typical of any flying machines. A major and
the most valuable feature of autogyro is its flying safety and reliability. This feature is identified
by:
- zero stall with the loss of forward velocity; loss of speed brings aircraft to spin, while au-
togyro switches to windmilling;
- the capability to land an autogyro – if an engine gets shut down - on a random spot of the
same size as an autogyro itself; an autorotative landing of autogyro is safer than that of a
helicopter. It is due to a fact that an autogyro’s windmilling is a standard condition, and
load on the disc area is little;
- low sensitivity to atmospheric turbulence and less restrictions to fly an autogyro if a
crosswind blows;
- speed range; low speed of a stable level flight (approximately 50 km/h) is less than that of
an airplane;
- as distinct from a helicopter, an autogiro has no vortex-ring state;
Individual dynamic features of an autogiro provide its safe flight operation by nonprofes-
sional pilots (efficiency of operation very little depends on forward velocity; parameters are
changed smoothly; errors made by a pilot do not lead to critical consequences).
А002М Autogyro is a design of Light Aviation Experimental Design Office (LAEDO) of
JSC IRKUT Corp. which has Design Organization Approval (DOA) Certificate. DOA Certificate
issued by IAC AR №Р-67 dated 20.04.2004 gives the right to design light aircraft.
Autogyro is a multipurpose machine having a closed cockpit. It is intended for solving a
wide scope of tasks in the sphere of General-Purpose Light Aviation among which are:
а) patrolling, reconnaissance
Surveillance of forest areas, oil/gas pipelines, power transmission lines; patrolling state
frontiers; environment and radiation exposure monitoring; road traffic patrolling; control over
meteorological conditions; ice reconnaissance; aerial mapping;
b) transportation problems
Supply of geological parties, raid patrols and search teams; search-and-rescue operations;
administrative and communicative functions; small shipment; urgent medical aid in out-of the-
way areas.
c) agricultural work.
d) personal and business aims.
e) special tasks.

STRUCTURE
A002M Autogyro is of modular structure. Consequently, it provides a possibility of its
all-round modification as for customer’s specifications (installation of external containers or ex-
tra equipment etc), as well as the step-by-step structural improvement both in production and in
service.
А002М Autogyro consists of:
- modular cockpit;
- autorotative load-carrying structure;
- propulsion system (PS);
- landing gear;
- modular tail part.
Modular cockpit comprises a closed and well-heated cockpit designed for 2 persons
seated side by side in front and 1 person – cargo included - at the back of it.
Layout of a modular cockpit incorporates such systems as:
- control system,
- electric power supply system,
- air-conditioning and heating system,
- control panels and instrument equipment,
- fire extinguisher.
Autorotative load-carrying structure (ALCS) incorporates:
- 2-blade MR,
- pylon on which elements of control system, of preliminary MR starting system and
those of MR braking system are arranged.
MR blades are made of composite materials.
Propulsion system is located at the rear of cockpit and comprises:
- automobile engine, 210 horse power (petrol grade: А-98);
- gear reducer;
- propeller;
- engine mount;
- systems: fuel system; cooling system; inlet system; exhaust system, vent system etc.
Landing gear is of tricycle structure with a nose wheel. Nose wheel is a steering wheel.
