Ich Sony’s Testimony

I was born into a strong Buddhist family. We were farmers. After my graduation from High
School in 1993, I worked with United Nation in Cambodia, while my country was still under
the influential of the communists. Then I was a policewoman of the Ministry of Interior from
1994.

One day, my friend who was a Christian, shared about the love of God and about Jesus Christ
to me, but my heart was still closed. I had raised many reasons against her, and one reason
was “I am Khmer. I have to be faithful to Khmer’s god”. I was boastful about my knowledge,
and about my identity. Many times, she persuaded me to go to attend Christian programs at
Church, but I still rejected. God graciously gave me chances to hear His redemption plan and
He was patient with me around one year.

In 1995, after I joined an evangelistic event conducted by a Christian group and I heard the
Gospel again and suddenly my heart at this time was touched and I was convinced about
God’s love for my life. I then kneeled down to pray, with tears from my eyes, to receive
Christ as my Lord and Savior.

How joyful I was after my new birth in Christ. I tried to talk to God through prayer and I
meditated on His word day and night. And His word in Matthew 9:36 that said, “When He
saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like
sheep without a shepherd”, made me have passion for God and compassion for people, and
motivated me to make a commitment in serving the Lord. God answered my prayers, just one
month after my conversion. A man asked me a question, “Do you want to serve the Lord?”
“Yes”, I replied. “Please pray for God’s guidance”, he said. Around two months later, I am
called to serve the Lord with Phnom Penh New Life Church and it is at that time under
Campus Crusade for Christ-Cambodia. I was working as office worker and besides that I take
time to reach out and to win College students for Christ and many students received Christ as
their Savior and Lord and then I followed-up and made them disciples.

I went to visit my parents and sisters and brothers at my hometown, Kandal province, after I
shared about Christ to them and encouraged them to accept Christ, 5 of them included my
father prayed after me to receive Christ as their Savior and Lord and I praised the Lord that
two of my brothers and sisters are now also serving the Lord.

A few years ago after I read in James 1:27, God put a burden in my heart to see the needs of
orphan kids and taking care them and then I am called to serve Him with Asia’s Hope as
School vice principal since 2006 until now.
