No inglês não é comum começar a frase com “But”, exceto em casos em que
já haja contexto. Veja exemplo:
Minha família chegou tarde para a festa. Mas eu quis ficar mais tempo.
My family arrived late to the party. But (However) I wanted to stay longer.
Eu tenho que trabalhar até mais tarde. Mas eu chegarei antes do reveillon.
I have to work late. But (However) I am gonna get before new year’s eve
party.
