Guide for the writing of the reflective essay (reflection paper) in Phil. Lit.

1. Essay must have these basic parts; introduction, discussion, conclusion and reference list
or works cited.
2. Introduction shall contain
 Brief summary of the article (Do not just copy and paste. Paraphrase the ideas)
 Minimum of 15 sentences, max of 25 sentences.
3. Discussion shall contain
 Your personal stand about the issue/s.( either you agree or disagree ).
The issue/s can be the idea/s presented in the article, a sentence or lines in the
article or the whole article.
 State the issue/s first from the article, then you can state your stand/reflection.
 Support your stand, by citing at least 3 citations from other authors/articles which
share your side/ideas. Follow APA style when citing in-text. Please take note that
whatever is cited in-text shall also be reflected in the reference list/works cited at
the end page.
For example; you say Filipino cultural heritage is slowly forgotten. Discuss your
stand first why you say so. Cite examples according to your observations/readings.
Then quote or cite other author/s or from other articles which share the same stand as
yours. For example, Nick Guivarra (2012) also wrote in his article “ Losing to
Development …..” that the Fort Boniface a declared cultural heritage is…….( this
is already one citation. You need three citation for each issue you raised). The citation
will help strengthen your stand/reflection.
 Maximum of five issues can be discussed.
4. The Conclusion shall contain
 A brief summary of all the stand/points you discussed.
 A short punch line which will help the reader remember your most important
point.
 Minimum of 15 sentences, max of 25 sentences.
