Over the last en months, we have periodically requested updates from EPSD concerning implementation of the MOA and its broader efforts to address problems within the school environment at Easthampton Iligh School (“ELIS”). After recently meeting with the new Superintendent, Allison Leclair, we are encouraged by her commitment to take the steps required to foster an environment that is positive, welcoming, and inclusive for all students. As part of our review, we identified several provisions of the MOA that were not ‘complied with during the 2017-18 school year, In particular, EPSD and EHS did not develop compliant policies concerning bias-related harassment or police involvement at EHS; provide ‘compliant training for all EHS students on bullying and harassment; or seek or receive approval from the AGO for new policies and trainings, including EPSD's agreement with the Easthampton Police Department conceming the Student Resource Officer Program. We are confident that EPSD and Superintendent Leclair will promptly address these ‘outstanding items leading into the 2018-19 school year.
