Pakistan Energy Yearbook 2015 i
FOREWORD
During 2014-15, renewable energy had its first significant appearance in the
primary commercial energy supply. It is expected that renewable energy will have a
significant share in primary energy supply in the future with the completion of
projects under implementation.
The Pakistan Energy Yearbook is the official annual publication of the energy
sector of Pakistan. I appreciate the efforts of the Hydrocarbon Development Institute
of Pakistan for disseminating vital energy sector information among policy makers,
professionals and stakeholders.

ENERGY DATA OF THERMAL POWER STATIONS 2014-15 (Contd.)
98
IPPs of KESC
Over the last thirty years, Asia has become a major player on the global
scene. Many economies have become tigers while China and India are developing
more rapidly than anyone had expected. Because of these developments,
electricity demand is expected to increase 10% every year until 2017. As the world
wakes up to the reality of climate change, electricity will increasingly have to come
from renewable sources such as wind, solar etc. Pakistan is in a good position to
exploit these resources because it has abundant wind and sun.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
The following give details of dissemination and promotion of RET’s by PCRET:
ELECTRICITY GENERATION BY
RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS (2014-15)
Twenty eight (28) wind power projects having cumulative capacity of 1396.4 MW
have been issued Letter of Intent (LOI) and are in different stages of
development/operation. The brief status of wind power projects being pursued by
AEDB is as under:
104 Pakistan Energy Yearbook 2015
The following nine (09) projects making a cumulative capacity of 477 MW have
been achieved financial close and are under construction.
The following one solar power project has completed construction and is expected
to achieve COD in August 2015:
The following three solar power projects of cumulative capacity of 300 MW have
signed EPA and IA and are under construction:
Six (06) IPPs with a cumulative capacity of 47.84 MW have obtained Letter of
Support (LOS) from AEDB and are expected to achieve financial closing by 31 st
December, 2015:
Twenty five (25) solar power projects of 663.6 MW cumulative capacity have
obtained LOI from AEDB and are at different stages of project development.
In order to tap the potential of electricity generation from the sugar mills in
Pakistan, the Government on recommendation of AEDB announced the
Framework for Power Co-generation 2013 (Baggase/Biomass) in February 2013.
AEDB developed standard security documents (Energy Purchase Agreement
(EPA) / Implementation Agreement (IA)) for baggase based co-generation projects
under Framework for Power Co-generation 2013 (Baggase/Biomass). NEPRA
announced an upfront tariff of Rs. 10.7291 per kWh (Levelized) for bagasse based
co-generation projects under the Framework.
106 Pakistan Energy Yearbook 2015
Following one company has achieved financial closing of their respective project
and is under construction:
Nine (09) companies/sugar mills have been issued LOIs for cumulative capacity of
271 MW and are in different stages of project development, as listed below:
