RMC News and Workshops
Denver
Dear Friends,
How's your summer going? Hope all is well and you're having fun.
Our board got together to talk a bit more about offering another series of classes. We'll focus on surface
decoration in 2019. This might include use of leather onlays and inlays; blind tooling; paper or fabric
decoration - there are a lot of choices! Just like last year, we'd like to offer three progressive workshops
that build on skills learned previously. And . . . how about a collaborative chapter project next year?
A gathering will be held in the home studio of our workshop chair, Martha Rome, Aug. 19, 1:30-4:30p
to discuss the possibilities. We'll end with a little refresher to review link stitch sewing. The intention is
to help prepare students for Karen Hanmer's workshop. The refresher is limited to registrants of the
workshop and chapter members (if there is room). If you are interested in this refresher, please rsvp
since I have to cut textblocks and bring supplies,
Karen.jones@jeffcolibrary.org<mailto:Karen.jones@jeffcolibrary.org>. Limited to 8.
Gathering Agenda

2:00-3:00 Show samples and discuss options for upcoming series on surface decoration
discussion of possible collaborative project - expressions of interest, ideas?

Regarding bookwork as interactive sculptural objects, Bailey has
developed various ways of adapting traditional binding and structures to create books designed to hold
dimensional objects. In this workshop, participants create two books to showcase and house both
dimensional objects and flat artifacts. With great flexibility at the spine and sturdy, rigid pages, these
books work well when handled or displayed as traditional book forms or as sculptural objects. Bring
personal images and artifacts to build enclosures that are sculptural narratives or archives of memory.
