INTRODUCTION
Monitor mounts are the supportive bracket or arm designed in such a way that that hold up
computer monitor, laptop, notebook or any other display device/screen. With the
advancement in technology old bulky cathode ray tube monitors are replaced by LCD and
LED flat panel type. These flat panel monitors become popular due to light weight , less
weight and enhanced display, for fitting or placing this flat panels a supportive bracket is
required which can withstand the load of monitor and provide basic functionality to its
movement such as its movement and rotation , with this concern we in this paper brought out
some aesthetic design and technically feasibly mounts . Mounts are not only supportive
brackets they are also useful for sedentary activities to enhance the productivity of
organisation.
In this paper we are concentrate on monitor mounts, wall mounts and sit and stand mounts
and workspace environment where people have choice to do work in their comfort zone, if
they like to do work in standing position or while sitting just making an comfortable
adjustment with their monitor mounts so that physical aspects of life is maintained which in
turn provide them physical movement.

DESIGN PHILOSIPHY
To understand the best way to set up a computer workstation, it is helpful to understand the
concept of neutral body positioning. This is a comfortable working posture in which your
joints are naturally aligned. Working with the body in a neutral position reduces stress and
strain on the muscles, tendons, and skeletal system and reduces your risk of developing a
musculoskeletal disorder (MSD). The following are important considerations when
attempting to maintain neutral body postures while working at the computer workstation.
Hands, wrists, and forearms are straight, in-line and roughly parallel to the floor.
Head is level, forward facing, and balanced. Generally it is in-line with the torso.
Shoulders are relaxed and upper arms hang normally at the side of the body.
Elbows stay in close to the body and are bent between 90 and 120 degrees.
Feet are fully supported by the floor or a footrest may be used if the desk height is
not adjustable.
Back is fully supported with appropriate lumbar support when sitting vertical or
leaning back slightly.
Thighs and hips are supported and generally parallel to the floor.
Knees are about the same height as the hips with the feet slightly forward
Regardless of how good your working posture is, working in the same posture or sitting still
for prolonged periods is not healthy. You should change your working position frequently
throughout the day in the following ways:
With this requirement in our paper we are focusing on out mount design that maintains the
above parameters of natural movement. Mounts should be design keeping in mind the
following natural movements.
(a) Upright sitting posture. The user’s torso and neck are approximately vertical and
inline, the thighs are approximately horizontal, and the lower legs are vertical
(b) Standing posture. The user’s torso, neck, and head are approximately in-line and
vertical with feet slightly apart, the user may also elevate one foot on mount rest while
in this posture
(c) Declined sitting posture The user’s thighs are inclined with the buttocks higher
than the knee and the angle between the thighs and the torso is greater than 90
degrees. The torso is vertical or slightly reclined and the legs are vertical. The position
should not inhibit the ability to easily reach the keyboard or view the monitor
(d) Reclined sitting Posture. The users torso and neck are straight and recline between
105 and 120 degrees from the thighs.
Workstation Components – Monitors
Viewing Angle-Height and Side-To-Side- Working with your head and neck turned
to the side for a prolonged period loads neck muscles unevenly and increases fatigue
and plain. The top of the monitor should be at or slightly below eye level. The center
of the computer monitor should normally be located 15 to 20 degrees below
horizontal eye level.
Viewing Time- Viewing the monitor for long periods of time may cause eye fatigue
and dryness. Users often blink less while viewing the monitor. Rest your periodically
by focussing on objects that are farther away.
Viewing Clarity- Monitors that are tilted significantly either toward or away from the
operator may distort objects on the screen, making them difficult to read. Also, when
the monitor is tilted back, overhead lights may create glare on the screen. This can
result in eyestrain and sitting in awkward postures to avoid eye glare. Tilt the monitor
so it is perpendicular to your line of sight, usually by tilting the screen no more than
10 to 20 degrees. This is most easily done if the monitor has a riser/ swivel stand. A
temporary solution involves tilting the monitor back slightly by placing a book under
the front edge.
CONCEPT AND MOUNT SELECTION
DESIGN SELECTION: - There are many possible designs available for the base/ wall
attachments of this mount. Many companies are making such kind of mounts here in this
paper we are focused on the selection of mounts their kinematics and stress calculation
In this paper we are taking two design approaches. The first design will be a single arm
design that will use only one stud. The other design will be with multiple studs with dual arm
design.
In single base design the base is fixed and the links are made to fix one another in suc a way
that it gives 360 degree rotation to link 1 and 2 and the monitor base has a rotation of 180
degree. In this design single strut is used and bottom is mounted to wall.
FEA DESIGN ANALYSIS
A Finite Element Analysis is carried out on the entire assembly to determine the max stress
and deflection.
Boundary Condition
Two models are taken in consideration for stud y the kinematics and stress calculation.
In both the models lings are joint though pin joint connection, so that the movement can be shown
and be adjusted as per the requirement.
Considering the load is fixed of LCD or mounting such as monitor, screen with approx. loading of 60N
And applying material as steel with following properties
A stress analysis of the entire assembly was done to determine if the wall anchor bolt would be
pulled out of the wall. To find this, calculations were done to find the amount of force that is pulling
on the anchor bolt. The weight of 20N was found by adding the weight of any substantial
components, being the arms and the sub base. The weights of all the components were calculated
using the material properties in solidworks. Using the total weight and an applied load of 60 N
(includes a safety factor of 3), calculations were done to find the force “F” that will be pulling on the
anchor bolts.
Movement of monitor mount wall fixed for standing position, here monitor can be adjusted in any
position vertically as per the need with angle movement ranges from 0 degree to 270 degree of
rotation.
