Method of Construction Joint

In the execution of casting required broadcasting implementation or foundry joints,

because the implementation of concrete structures basically can not be implemented in one
continuous casting for the entire construction of buildings that are made.

Concrete structures in this case include structural elements:

 vertical (pile foundation, foundation pole drill, column, shear wall, retaining wall, etc.)
 horizontal (sloof / tie beam, beam including transfer beam, floor plate including
diaphragm, etc)
In this section it is described briefly for the foundry connections on the upper structure of
beams, columns and floor slab.
The basic principles of casting connection placement wherever possible:
 In the minimal amount possible
 Placed in a position with the slightest shear stress and moment (consideration of shear
stress is more dominant than moment)
 Placed in a transverse position perpendicular to the primary reinforcement of the
connected structural elements.

Position of Casting Connection

Due to the condition and complexity of existing structures, it is sometimes difficult to
determine and place the minimal position of force on a structural element, therefore some
practical reference is given to the placement of the foundry joints by requiring the consideration
of the Design Consultant or the Supervisor in its implementation.

A. columns and walls

1. Termination of casting of columns and walls

at the threshold position of the largest beam
structure that it accumulates.
2. Beams, column heads and floor plates on
top are casted as one unit (monolith).
3. Columns and walls are continued above the
column head, at the top level of the floor slab.
B. Floor plates And Beam Structures.

Floor plates and beam structures with simple pedestals, recommended stop cast placement not
on the middle of the span, with minimum shear force conditions and maximum moments.
The placement of the cast stop on the floor plate and the continuous beam which is a suspended
structure system, recommended to be placed in 1/3 or 1/4 span (pedestal area).
Treatment of Casting connection

The casting of the casting shall be treated well, to ensure adequate friction and friction
resistance so that the structure can generally be expressed as a unified structure.

- Chipping the surface of the casting joints so that the rough aggregates are visible, to ensure
good attachment and friction with the concrete to be cast later.

- Clean the surface of the casting joints from dust and loose particles.
- Use a good bonding agent as per the instructions in the technical brochure.
