Gaming and Medical Science?

Why to Merge the Two Opposites

Abstract:

Looking at the title, you should be questioning how these two drastically different
subjects would ever be put together but you would be surprised at what the outcome would be. It
can be done for sure. Just ask the right questions and you’ll find out how. You should really be
focused on the “why” these two subjects are coming together. That is because Sick Games is
going to be the first to integrate the two. The reasoning behind this is to make Sick Games a
more well-known organization. An organization that cares about the well-being of sick children.
Sick Games is going to form a partnership with Child Life Programs across the nation and bring
gaming fun to the boring hospital. Child Life Programs are all around the US and are crucial to a
child’s well-being during a long hospital stay. Child Life Programs help children cope with
medical procedures, distract them from the hospital activities and have fun with the kids. Now,
partnering up with Sick Games, Child Life Programs can have an easier time distracting kids.
Not only will this partnership help Child Life, but it will also strongly promote Sick Games in
hospitals around the US.
Introduction:

Survival: Since the beginning of time, humans have had one key instinct. This key
instinct is also shared with many other species of animals and has given them greater
opportunities and a chance of success. This basic instinct or behavior is community. Humans are
a pack species, meaning we like to surround ourselves with people of familiarity and
comfortability. The main reason we do this is not just because we get lonely sometimes. It is
because there is a greater chance of survival in a pack. That’s why you always see fish
swimming in schools and wildebeest in massive herds. The reason this subject is being brought
up is because Sick Games is alone and needs a pack. In the competitive market we work in, and
with our crowd funded company we see a gap in our efficiency. Over some time, our name
wasn’t reaching out far enough to make a difference. We took a survey from 100 people in 5
major cities on the east coast and asked if they have heard of Sick Games.
Boston – 26/100
Philadelphia – 30/100
New York – 18/100
Atlanta – 9/100
Miami – 11/100
So, what does this have in relation to being a pack animal? Well our solution to our problem is to
create a partnership with hospitals, more specifically, their Child Life Services branches. The
subsequent paper will discuss why, how and when these changes will be incorporated. Not only
will the paper discuss the former but it will also discuss the many great benefits of doing such a
partnership.

Background:

If you don’t know by now, Sick Games is a company dedicated to the comfortability of
home at the hospital. We deliver gaming consoles, computers, board games and arcades to
hospital rooms for children. The reasoning behind this is because we know how physically and
emotionally draining being in the hospital is and that’s why we try to make it more enjoyable.
However, in the market we are in today we see our company on the decline. With so many non-
profit companies to compete against we find ourselves struggling with donations of either cash or
the hardware itself. Sick Games has found the cause to be the lack of marketing of the company.
If more people knew about our great service more people would donate, volunteer or use our
services. If this problem were to be fixed there would be multiple benefits. Not just benefits for
the company, but benefits for the people using or working for the service. With Sick Games
having better brand recognition that would mean more kids all over the USA would be getting
the special treatment Sick Games provides. More people would donate their consoles or games to
the organization as opposed to letting them sit in an attic or thrown away. Kids will be
entertained at the hospital and they would be able to partake in something they usually could
only do at home. Therefore, solving this problem is crucial to the betterment of the kids stuck in
the hospital for extended periods of time. If other companies can find success in it, we can too.

Solution:
Most pediatric hospitals in the 21rst century have a Child Life Program. In fact, since
1965 the number of such programs has doubled. Now there are over 400 Child Life programs in
the United States alone. Also, in 2001, a survey by the National Association of Children’s
Hospitals and Related Institutions found that 95% of 118 responding hospitals employed child
life specialists. Interpreting these facts, there is a huge demand and supply for Child Life
Services in hospitals of the US. To show how well known these services are we conducted the
same survey as before except asked the question if the person has ever heard of Child Life
Services in hospitals.
Boston – 88/100
Philadelphia – 79/100
New York – 85/100
Atlanta – 72/100
Miami – 77/100
Looking at the results you can see that the brand recognition of Child Life is far greater than
Sick Games. And according to Hospice care for children, Child life programs and the kinds of
services they provide are a component of family-centered care. Which at Sick Games, we strive
to be just like those services. This is the reason behind why Sick Games is forming a partnership
with Child Life Programs at hospitals in the US. Child Life Programs are well known and widely
used. Almost any child staying at the hospital will encounter one of these services which is why
it is a great idea to partner with these family oriented programs. For example, Child Life Services
of Boston Hospital teamed up with Sick Games for a month to do a test run on how a partnership
would carry out. In the end, the kids were excited that they had video game options from Sick
Games and the company name was upheld at the highest degree. Child Service also enjoyed our
partnership because in some ways it made their job easier. Kids were more relaxed at the hospital
and were more receptive to hospital treatment and exercises.

Conclusion:

This short paper was to give you a more personal look at Sick Games and what we strive
to be. We want to be the big organization that people recognize and support. However, in the
recent market activity, Sick Games hasn’t help up very well. Our brand recognition is almost
none and our services aren’t being funded or used as much as they should be. Sick Games wants
to help with hospital stays, which is why we are joining the hospital ways. We are forming a
partnership with a Child Life Program so parents can take happy photos and post it on the
Instagram. Here at Sick Games we care about family, which is why we are gaining brand
recognition like the Toyota Camry. If you’d like to try out our partnership for yourself, contact
Boston Hospital and they’ll treat you like your top shelf. Here at Sick Games we don’t care about
the fame, we just care about making the hospital less lame. We can put this problem to bed, and
in the next few years you’ll see us get ahead.
