1. This Asian country is about an archipelago of 7107 islands.

Después pasó a manos de los Estados Unidos. El 4 de julio de 1946, Filipinas alcanzó su
independencia.

3. El nombre «Filipinas» deriva del nombre del rey Felipe II.

4. Debido a un decreto colonial (el Edicto de Clavería) se distribuyeron sistemáticamente

apellidos de origen español a todos los Filipinos. Hoy no queda ni rastro de los apellidos en lenguas
originarias de las Filipinas. Los nombres de pila también siguen siendo en español en su mayoría,
aunque también se estilan en ingles, o una mezcla extraña (por ejemplo: John-Rey).

5. Tiene una población estimada de unos 90 millones de personas, de los cuales más de 20
millones viven en el área metropolitana de Manila. La ciudad de Manila está habitada por más de
11 millones de personas, una de las aglomeraciones urbanas más pobladas del mundo.
