SUMMIT DAY ONE

Friday, September 16, 2016 | The St. Regis Hotel San Francisco

8:00 - 9:00 am Breakfast

9:00 - 9:30 am Good Morning & Nice To Meet You!

Our Fifth Annual Summit begins with an introduction by Lisa Witter, our Facilitator, followed by a
warm welcome from Courtney Harvey, the Executive Director of Women Moving Millions.

9:30 - 10:00 am Transformational Philanthropy

How should we give our time, talent and treasure in a way that truly moves the needle for gender lens
philanthropy? How can we use innovation, design thinking and a market-based approach to give in a
way that matters more? Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen is the Founder of the Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen
Foundation, Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2) and Stanford Center on Philanthropy and
Civil Society (Stanford PACS). As an academic, social entrepreneur and foundation executive, she leads
a movement to improve the quality and accessibility of philanthropy education globally. Today she
will frame the day by sharing innovative strategies on how to invest time, money and expertise to
catalyze resources that empower women and girls.

10:00 - 10:30 am Stories of Innovation #1 - From Empathy to Innovation: Learning By Design

Human Centered Design (HCD) is a research and design methodology that puts the people we serve
at the very center of the problem-solving process. For WMM Member and The Curious Company
Founder, Pam Scott, she and her colleagues at PSI/Tanzania are using HCD to address the issue of
unintended teen pregnancy. Her experience there (as well as in business) has demonstrated time and
time again that empathy is one of the most powerful tools we have to design solutions that inspire be-
havior change. Hear what Pam has learned by design and how each of us can be more human-centered
in our approach to philanthropy.

10:30 - 11:15 am Innovation + Entrepreneurship

According to Sally Osberg and Roger Martin, a social entrepreneur is someone who explicitly aims to
permanently and systematically transform a miserable or unfair societal condition. They act directly,
creating a product, service or methodology that spurs the transformation of the status quo. Joining
us are leading social entrepreneurs, Zubaida Bai, Founder of ayzh, Cheryl Dorsey, President of Echoing
Green and Leila Janah, CEO of Sama, who will share their game-changing solutions to some of the
world’s most pressing problems. Moderated by Elizabeth Gore, Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Dell.

11:15 am - 12:15 pm Spotlight: The Refugee Crisis

Today, over 65 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes, making this the worst hu-
manitarian crisis since World War II. As the global refugee crisis rages on, girls and women continue
to suffer disproportionately…but are also often part of the solution, trailblazing pathways to safety.
What does it mean to act boldly in times of conflict, and what role can innovation play? Speakers
include Barrie Landry, Trustee, Landry Family Foundation and WMM Member; Caryl Stern Presi-
dent & CEO of U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Kuoth Wiel, Actor, Activist, Co-Founder of the
NyaEden Foundation, and former refugee. Moderated by Jessica Houssian, Senior Advisor of WMM.

Since coming out through her TED Talk and launching Gender Proud, Geena Rocero, Model, Producer &
Trans Rights Advocate, has been working with her community and beyond to develop a dialogue about
the trans experience through various perspectives. The trans community has garnered significant
media visibility in recent years; from Laverne Cox on the cover of TIME to Caitlyn Jenner’s 20/20 re-
veal. For this very intimate conversation, you will hear stories about a very brave vanguard of activists
and advocates. You will learn more about gender non-conformity and fluidity as well as leave with an
understanding of how you can be an effective advocate for the trans community.

2:15 - 3:00 pm Innovation + Story

What do you get when you combine great narratives with innovative technologies? Is story telling itself
a technology? The answers are to be found within this panel. You will be hearing from Jess Tomlin, Execu-
tive Director of The MATCH International Women’s Fund, Sherrie Westin, Executive Vice President of
Global Impact & Philanthropy at the Sesame Workshop and Kamal Sinclair, Director of the Sundance In-
stitute’s New Frontier Labs Program, who will share their insights for how narrative, in its many forms, and
delivered in diverse ways, can positively impact our culture and create social change. Moderated by

Philanthropy neither starts nor ends with writing a check. Rather, it is the combined engagement
of one’s skills, talents and financial resources that propel social change. As such, this year’s Work-
shop Sessions are structured around the four pillars of Women Moving Millions’ new Philanthrop-
ic Leadership Curriculum: Philanthropic Strategies, Voice & Influence, Financial Engagement and
Self-Care & Awareness. These four key pillars constitute what Women Moving Millions considers to
be thoughtful, strategic and holistic donor leadership.

SUMMIT DAY TWO

Saturday, September 17, 2016 | The St. Regis Hotel San Francisco

2:30 - 4:00 pm Women Moving Millions Circles Meetings

The Circles Program is an organizational engagement tool which provides ongoing opportunity for member
interaction, knowledge sharing, and collective action around issues of greatest interest to our members. Join
us as we convene our Circles in-person and hear updates from our members and others about the great work
they’re doing in each respective area.

Film Circle
Gallery Ballroom | 2nd Floor
The WMM Film Circle leverages the expertise and collective passion of our members to support and advance
social impact films by, for, or about women. The Circle will provide members opportunities to share, learn,
collaborate, and leverage the WMM platform to bring greater resources to these films. After 30 minutes of an
update on the work of the Circle and member share time we will be joined by some guest speakers. Susan Sa-
randon, Alexandra Dean, and Adam Haggiag of Reframed Pictures will be talking about their latest project,
Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. Bombshell is a documentary that will tell the little-known story of a 1940’s
screen siren whose remarkable invention revolutionized mobile communications.

Violence Against Women & Girls Circle

Impressionist Room | 4th Floor
The Violence Against Women and Girls Circle will consider any gender-based violence topics pertaining to wom-
en and girls excluding trafficking and pornography which are addressed in separate and distinctly focused circles.
Topics for consideration include (but are not limited to): domestic violence, rape, female genital cutting/mutilation,
femicide, child brides, marital rape, imprisonment for non-violent crimes (such as adultery, miscarriage, gender
identity and sexual orientation) and violence propagated by cultural norms. We will hear from members who are
engaged in work in this area as well as front line workers, experts, and thought leaders focused on gender-based
violence.

Anti-Pornography Circle
Conservatory | 4th Floor
WMM members have demonstrated a growing interest in contributing to the fight against the explosion of violent
online pornography and the resultant hyper-sexualization of the culture. Our Anti-Pornography Circle will devel-
op strategies to fight against the harms of the porn industry and re-build a healthy sexuality that is based on intima-
cy, connection, and empathy. Activities for this Circle include convening leading academic and activist voices in
this field to deepen the understanding of the harmful effects of porn culture, which include gender based violence,
addiction, trauma, and compromised brain and social development among youth. Our members will engage with
experts in mental health, medicine, sociology, public health, and social activism to develop action plans designed to
bring an end to porn culture and the harms it does to women, men, and children.
