A YEAR IN ISRAEL: REFLECTIONS OF AN OUTSIDER FROM THE INSIDE
Rabbi Goldstein lived with her family in Jerusalem from August 2009-August 2010. This powerpoint presentation will explore the relationship of
Diaspora Jews to Israel, including perspectives on such topics as religious pluralism, women of the Wall, Arab-Israeli conflicts and Israeli politics. Through
the use of provocative photos, articles, and real-life daily experiences of her year in Israel, Rabbi Goldstein will take us past “Disney Israel” in this enter-
taining and thought-provoking presentation.

“HALF THE KINGDOM: THE NEXT GENERATION”
It has been 20 years since the film “Half the Kingdom” came out and challenged all of us to rethink the role of women in Judaism. It had the first footage
of Women of the Wall and introduced us to the “normalcy” of baby-namings. We celebrated its 10th year and asked, “how have things changed for
Jewish women?” Now in its 20th year we will ask, “whats next?” Join us for an extraordinary reunion of some of the film’s participants followed by a
panel of today’s young thinkers on the questions of Judaism, feminism, post-feminism, roles and reversals. We’ll explore, assess, evaluate and dream with
the previous generation and the next generation of female Jewish leaders.

WHO IS A JEW? / Rabbi Michael Klein-Katz, Jerusalem
Focusing upon one of the most pressing questions facing the Jewish community world-wide today, this topic opens us up to the historical, theological
and practical implications of the issue from our earliest biblical roots to the divisive wedge it has currently become among our people. Through our ex-
amination of how a formula for Jewish status affects Israeli citizenship and Diaspora conversions, intermarriage and intra-faith Jewish relations, assimilation
and synagagoue membership in North America, we shall come to a working definition that will shed light upon the meaning of being a Jew in our time.

Rabbi Michael Klein-Katz received his honorary Doctor of Divinity, M.A. in Hebrew Literature and Rabbinic Ordination from the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (New York and Jerusalem). Having served Reform congregations and summer camps in America for more
than a decade, he settled in Jerusalem, where he has devoted himself to interreligious and intercultural dialogue, adult education, medical clowning, re-
ligious tourism and raising a family.

THE FEMALE RUSE: STORIES OF WOMEN’S DECEPTION IN GENESIS
Rabbi Elyse Goldstein and Dr. Rachel Adelman, Jerusalem
Why do women deceive in the Bible? Is it a "good" or a "bad" thing? Does it reinforce gender hierarchies or undermine them? We will study the figures
of Rebekah and Tamar: both dissemblers, both mothers of twins, and both don a veil. Join us for this unique co-teaching with an Orthodox female scholar
and a Reform female Rabbi.

Rabbi Elyse Goldstein is Director of Jewish Programs and Kolel at the Prosserman JCC. Dr. Rachel Adelman is a graduate of the Matan’s
M.A. Program in Tanakh, PhD in Hebrew Literature (with a specialty in midrash) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She currently teaches
Tanakh and Midrash at Matan, an Orthodox Women’s Institute for Torah Study in Jerusalem, and lectures widely abroad.
