The thinnest Americans are Asian Americans, CDC data show

Which Americans are least likely to be overweight or obese? Asian Americans, by a long shot.

New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal that 38.6% of Asian
American adults have a body mass index over 25, the threshold for being considered
overweight. That’s far below the 66.7% rate among whites, 76.7% rate among blacks and
78.8% rate among Latinos.

Some Asian American adults are more likely to be overweight than others. For instance, 43%
of men have a BMI over 25, compared with 34.7% of women. In addition, the prevalence of
overweight adults is nearly 1.5 times higher among adults who are at least 40 years old than it
is among those between the ages of 20 and 39, the data show.
The figures are based on physical measurements of Asian American volunteers who
participated in the CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2011 and 2012.
During those years, researchers recruited extra Asian Americans for the long-running study in
order to bolster the “scarcity of health information” about this minority group, according to
the new report, released Wednesday.
The researchers, from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, also report that 10.3% of
Asian Americans have high total cholesterol, with at least 240 milligrams per deciliter of blood.
That is “similar” to other American adults, according to the study.

The 14.3% who have low levels of HDL cholesterol (the “good” kind) is lower than the 21.8%
prevalence among people the CDC classified as Hispanic.

In addition, the researchers say that 25.6% of Asian American adults qualify as having
hypertension because their blood pressure is at least 140/90 millimeters mercury or because
they are taking blood pressure medications. That’s about the same as the prevalence for
whites and Latinos, but lower than the 42.1% incidence among non-Hispanic African
Americans.

Nearly 1 in 20 Americans is an Asian American -- a person of Chinese, Asian Indian, Korean,

Philippine, Vietnamese or Japanese descent -- according to the CDC. That amounts to 15.4
million people, a figure that has climbed by more than 40% since 2000.

Asian Americans tend to be younger than white Americans, with 43.6% of the population
between the ages of 20 and 39 and 19.3% past their 60th birthday, compared with 31.4% and
30% for whites, the data show.

The report also notes that 72.1% of Asian Americans attended school beyond high school and
that 84.5% were born in another country.

STOP ANTI BULLYING

“When you give BULLIES the WORST of yourself, they usually end up getting
the BEST of yourself too. DON’T DO IT. IT’S NOT WORTH IT”

Kids in the inner city take what they feel is the only protection they have and join the gang.
Living in a concrete jungle it is hard to find a place to hide. When their story is written in the
Newspaper, it is seen as gang violence. Gangs are filled with people who were bullied into
the gang. Newspaper articles on bullying are written after the fact. Many times, there is no
witness to the event and the instigator of the problem is able to hide in a corner and
pretend innocence, until the next victim. This is very much like most crimes; nothing can be
done until someone gets hurt.
Groups in classrooms give the bully a forum. He or she wants to be the center of attention
and the bullying gives him the attention of the crowd. The person being bullied is usually
the easy outcast. Bullying can be brought to a crawl by a lack of participation. Kids that
talk about their problems are more than likely to get help. Newspaper stories that perhaps
bring the attention of the world to the bully before hand might help or giving the bully the
attention, they need from another forum.
There are no easy answers but talking about the subject starts the work of finding
them. People do not always talk to their children. With more parent’s working day in and
day out finding out everything is not possible. Kids hold many things in. Classroom diaries
might even help. Writing anonymously about bullies and letting this information be given
to parties that have nothing to do with the school the kids are in may lead to less problems
with bullies. Kids read one another’s handwriting and can often notice who wrote what but
if the information is sent outside of the area, many problems might be solved. These young
people hurt themselves out of fear. The world has to find a way to take away the fear.
In one of the recent newspaper articles on bullying, the LA Times points out the story of
an Illinois father whose son committed suicide at the age of 15 after being extremely bullied
at school. In this article, one of the most touching newspaper articles on bullying, the father
narrates how he found solace in taking to Facebook to post a series of small videos about
his son’s bullying episodes.
Newspaper articles on bullying also severely shared this study on how bullying victims were
more than twice as likely to contemplate suicide or self hard and about two times likely to
actually attempt suicide, this was one of the shocking recent news articles on bullying.

Woman in dinosaur costume charged after scaring carriage horses
We never cease to be amazed at the antics of some people, we have all had our
moments of fun at a party, fancy dress event or perhaps fuelled up with just a
little too much alcohol, but getting dressed up in a Tyrannosaurs Rex costume and
growling at horses, is perhaps taking fun jut that bit too far!

This is what happened in Charleston in South Carolina; the person a woman Nicole Wells, 26,
wearing the costume approached a horse drawn carriage in the area of Church and Linguard
Street. At around 5.30 a group of people were enjoying a carriage ride touring downtown
historic Charleston when Wells wearing the orange costume thought it would be fun to spook
the horses. Naturally the horse became scared, who wouldn’t we ask, and in the police
statement it is understood that the horses backed away and the carriage struck an
unoccupied vehicle, causing minor damage to its bumper. The carriage driver, Van Sturgeon
lost his balance and fell off the carriage. Unfortunately he was hurt in the incident and
suffered a bruise and a broken bone in his left foot. He was transported to a local hospital for
his injuries.

The news of the incident reached the Charleston Animal Society who immediately offered a
$2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest. Reacting to this Charleston Animal
Society CEO Joe Elmore said. “If it was intentional, I’ll double it.” Well Joe did not have to reach
into his wallet as the woman turned herself into the police and we understand that a detective
told Van Sturgeon the woman turned herself in, but he admitted that he did not know what
the “disorderly conduct” and “wearing a mask or disguise” charges were.
As you might imagine the tour operator Palmetto Carriage Works was not impressed, Tommy
Doyle, the Manager says that animal rights activists are creating a dangerous environment for
carriage horses. “The City of Charleston needs to condemn these tactics and warn groups that
encourage this behaviour that their rhetoric is fuelling this danger,” he said.

We have to admit being slightly mystified if this was an animal rights tactic, scaring animals,
horses in this case does not seem to add up to protecting , or enhancing their rights somehow.
Possibly when Nicole Wells appears in court she may be able to enlighten us all how
threatening horses is supposed to protect them. Joe Elmore is equally mystified as he suggest
that if the incident is as reported then both he and Palmetto view this as animal cruelty and
it is not only unacceptable, but also against the law.

German doctors advise the public walk the way penguins do when
on ice
Bob Lowden, an American music composer, wrote a stirring march called Penguins
on Parade, now we are not sure if this inspired a group from the German Society
of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery to advise people to mimic penguins when
the footpaths are covered in ice, no we think that there was another very good
reason.
German weather forecasters are telling us that there are going to be freezing
temperatures forecast nationwide over the next few days. The advice, recently
published on the internet is that imitating penguins when walking means that
the torso is forward, and therefore the centre of gravity, is over the front leg.

When humans walk, we are generally in a more upright position with our centre
of gravity being split between our two legs; this means that falling on a slippery
surface is considerably greater. Now of course our aquatic bird friends have
evolved over many millennium in places such as the South Atlantic and Antarctic
adapting remarkably to those icy conditions when on shore, some would say we
sensibly stuck to our caves when it became icy outside!
The reasoning behind the German publication follows on from the failure by
Municipal authorities in Berlin, who had been severely criticised for not dressing
the German capital’s pavement with rock salt in 2014 after a warning had been
issued by meteorologists concerning the onset of a freeze.

Inevitably the emergency services received 750 emergency calls and emergency
rooms were overstretched with patients with bone fractures and understandably
they do not want a repeat of that winter. With temperatures forecast to fall in
Berlin to minus 10 degrees Centigrade on Saturday, perhaps the Berlin A&E
departments will cancel all off duty and have a full team ready and waiting,
unless of course, Berliners emulate our flightless friends.

-STARTLING STATEMENT
THIS IS WHO I REALLY AM
My whole life has been a pain. At times it feels like I don’t belong and at times it feels like life
and I ain’t friends.

I believe the world would have been a better place without me; it’ll be better if I was with
angels. Some people wouldn’t make fun of me, telling their friends they never loved me, that
they only used me. The sexual perpetrators wouldn’t have done a thing to me and I wouldn’t
be feeling this invaluable and unwanted as I would be no more. I don’t wish death upon
myself. I know a lot has been already concluded about me but nobody knows me – and I
mean nobody.

I experienced sexual abuse (rape is a very strong word) in my life, not once and not by the
same person, but you’ll never hear me call men names. Instead I embrace them. I believe
people are different and I believe they can also change. I have a forgiving heart no matter
how bad it was hurt. Throughout my life I never met a guy who never hurt me, never treated
me better. I never met a guy who respected me, never met anyone who kept it real with me.
They all mistreated me and disrespected me even.

This is not about my love or past relationship experience. By telling you my life story I want
you to know that I am strong enough for I have been through something that might have
killed you. I became a parent at the age of nineteen and the sperm donor disappeared. Just
when my son was six months I went back to school (Varsity). But my Dad got sick and quit his
job and my bursary didn’t pay all my fees so I had to drop out of school. I had no one to help
with my financial situation.

People kept on judging me, making up stories about me. I know what poverty is and I know
how it feels like going to bed on an empty stomach. What hurts most is that I had to go all out
and try to help my family with this poverty situation, but my relatives only decided to judge
us. I am from a very rich family, not my parents but their relatives. It’s just that they are selfish
and judgmental. But they say it’s not a size of a dog that wins a fight but a size of a fight in
the dog.

That’s why I have a strong belief that my background doesn’t determine my future. And I
believe I am a future and a hope for my family. Being a victim of rape doesn’t mean you led
the perpetrators on, they just decided to abuse you. I am not only a victim of rape but cyber
bullying as well and I never let those discourage me. They even made me stand up for myself
even more…

Suicide crossed my mind so many times but I know there are people who appreciate me and
who I’m living for. It’s all thanks to my son; he inspires me to work hard for us and I know
every situation has its own expiry date.

I am not a victim but living proof that what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.

This is who I really am.

-ANECDOTE
THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN GOD AND AIR

As a religious woman, I believe God is an essential part of living. However,

society seems to be breaking more and more of Gods laws. This is a form of
religious pollution which is why I believe the recent problems with air and God is
similar.

However, there are some obvious differences between God and air. Speaking in
a physical sense we are all capable of living without God but not without air. In
a world without air civilization as we know it couldn't exist due to the lack of
breathable oxygen, the same cannot be said for a world without God. Also, air in
the Christian religion isn't a religious figure but during the times of the Greek and
other ancient religions there was a god of air whom they worshiped. Finally, in
death air is no longer needed and God becomes the entire reason for your
further spiritual existence.

Nevertheless, God and air are still remarkable similar. Just like air, God is not
seen. However, they can both be sensed through touch. God touches people's
hearts and gives them a sense of calmness and serenity and air's refreshing
breeze can be felt as it cools our skin. Air's effect can be seen as it blows through
the leaves on the trees or when it manifests as a tornado or hurricane and
destroys cities and towns. This was evident through the recent events of hurricane
Katrina which ripped through Louisiana in late 2005. Just as moving air can be
destructive so can God. In the bible God destroyed the world with a massive
flood as well as plaguing Egypt with locusts, frogs, darkness, storms, flies and
gnats.

God and air have healing or healthy forces as well as the destructive ones
previously mentioned. God has healed people suffering from leprosy, blindness,
and even death in a few cases. Wind, moving air, has the ability to carry rain
over places suffering from drought, or even cool sweaty skin which maintains a
stable core body temperature. These forces have saved many lives over the
centuries and will continue to do so for many more to come.

Pollution is also something that God and air share. This pollution is affecting the
essentials to a healthy life. Everyone is aware, due to the efforts of Al Gore and
others like him, of the massive amounts of carbon monoxide being released into
the air and the massive lose of trees because of lumberjacking. Global warming
or greenhouse effect is a direct result of these two factors. The carbon monoxide is
tearing a hole in the ozone layer which causes more harmful rays to reach the
Earth and push the temperatures up. Also helping trap these rays is the increase
in carbon dioxide, which is a direct result of the large lose of trees and their
ability to take carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen. Together these two factors
have scientists looking for a solution to possibly save humanity. God also suffers
from pollution caused by humans. Rising crime, murder, and adultery rates over
recent years coupled with breaking the other commandments has polluted the
laws of God which can have dire consequences. By society heading in its current
direction it could lead to the plagues that Egyptians suffered through not so long
ago. Ultimately, it is the human race that will suffer for the pollution they are
causing. Whether it is the lack of a livable environment because of the
greenhouse effect or God deciding that enough is enough in this corrupt, polluted
world and starting over with a clean slate, we are the ones that will suffer the
consequences of our pollution not the air and most certainly not God.

God and air share many important similarities. They both cannot be seen yet are
still sensed and known to exist. They both possess destructive and healing
potential and we are suffering from a great amount of pollution inflicted
towards God and air, over the years mainly caused by ourselves. Over the years
both were taken for granted and now I feel that if we take a stand against air
pollution and the religious pollution that affects God, we can truly change this
world for the better.

-ANALOGY
WHAT IS DEATH?
I’ve always been curious to know, if there’s really life after death ? We live life
everyday to improve our future. We are suggested, that we should embrace
death, not neglect it. But, are we told this so we become less exposed and were
less vulnerable for a down fall? We’re all going to have our fears, that’s no
question. Its our decision, whether to bring death on with open arms or just
abscond ourselves from the thought of it. Why try to battle something that
ultimately we have no control over?

The fact that, death has to many questions unanswered leaves us uninformed.
For one, no one really has discovered if there’s life after death. We must realize
the opportunity we are given and not disregard it by thinking it will always be
there. We must remember, life’s no Nintendo game; we don’t get a second
chance. The possibilities in life are endless, we must seize them not let them lapse
us by. But, can it be our life’s already scripted out, every second of our life wrote
down, and recorded ? How we know what actually is life ? Can we be in a long
never ending dream or maybe a comma ? It may seem real but it can be as
fictitious as statements stating that were all dying on a specific dates.

How can we proceed with life without stopping to cogitate about if death really
does exist ? How can we not be solicitous about when our life time is up ? We all
have distinctive outcomes, some positive and some negatives. We all have to
assimilate ourselves to the situation we are presented. We cant expect glory to
fall into our laps, we must go searching for it. We must be aggressive and
effective, construct well thought out, precise ideas and tactics to obtain anything
we desire.

Even after all these points that have been stated, we can conclude that death
cant really be define any specific way. It can be the sorrow feeling we get or the
depression we receive. How about , the lack of success life has thrown at us or
maybe not having the required funds to pay all of our possessions. Most people
think death comes when we no longer are able to breath, but a select few
realize death can be achieved while living.
