 Music plays.

A man runs. He is Elijah.

VOICES
Elijah. Elijah. Elijah.
(then)
You have challenged the worship of Baal. You have destroyed the priests of Baal. You
have humiliated the queen’s people, who depended on Baal.
(then)
Elijah Elijah Elijah.
(then)
Jezebel will seek you. Jezebel will hunt you. Jezebel will do the same to you that you’ve
done to the priests.

Elijah continues to run, but changes directions

as the voice haunt him.

Elijah trips and falls face down on the ground.

ELIJAH
It is too much Lord. Take away my life. I might as well be dead.

Lights shift.

A loaf of bread and jar of water appear near

where he lay.

Elijah lifts his head.

He sees the food, and reaches toward it.

ANGEL VOICE
Take and eat, or the journey will too much for you.

He pulls himself to the food and eats. As he

does he rises and continues to walk.

Elijah walks, then collapses.

ELIJAH
I have walked for 40 days. I can go no further. This cave will be my end.
 2.

LORD’S VOICE
Elijah.

Elijah raises his head.

ELIJAH
Lord.

LORD’S VOICE
What are you doing here?

ELIJAH
God Almighty, I have always served you, but your people have broken their covenant
with you, torn down your altars and killed your prophets. I am the only one left. And
they are now trying to kill me.

LORD’S VOICE
Go out and stand before me on the top of the mountain.

ELIJAH
I will.

Elijah climbs.

ELIJAH
Where are you?

The sound of a mighty storm. Wind. Like a

hurricane ate 5 tornados.

Rocks split and shatter.

ELIJAH
Is that you Lord?

The wind stops.

And earthquake begins. An 11.

ELIJAH
Is that you Lord?

Earthquake stops.

A fire rages. Massive, and hot.

 3.

ELIJAH
Lord, is that you?

The fire ends.

Lights go dark, but for part of Elijah’s face. If

you’d like, the light could pulse slightly with the
words of the Lord.

LORD’S VOICE
Elijah. What are you doing here?

ELIJAH
LORD God Almighty, I have always served you, and you alone. But the people of Israel
have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed all your prophets.
I am the only one left and they are trying to kill me.

LORD’S VOICE
I am with you. You will return to Damascus. I will purge the kingdom of Israel of those
who have bowed down to the idols of Baal and turned their backs on me.

ELIJAH
But I am all alone. How will Israel be purged?

LORD’S VOICE
I have chosen a new king for Syria, and for Israel.

ELIJAH
And what of me, Lord.

LORD’S VOICE
And I have chosen a prophet to succeed you.
(beat)
Elijah.

The Lord leaves, the lights change.

VOICES
It was many years later. When the Lord’s will had been done in Israel. And it came time
for Elijah to be with the Lord. Elijah walked with Elisha, his successor.

The sound of quaking.

VOICES
The earth shook.
 4.

The sound of wind.

VOICES
A whirlwind came between the men.

The sound of fire.

VOICES
And a fiery chariot carried Elijah into the heavens.

Elijah disappears.

VOICES
Elisha and 50 men searched for 3 days, but Elijah was never seen again.

Lights down.

End
