b) When 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑝𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 2 + 8𝑥 + 36 is divided by 𝑥 + 2, it leaves no remainder.
i) Find the values of 𝑝.
ii) Hence express 𝑓(𝑥) in the form 𝑓(𝑥) = (𝑥 + 2)(𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐), where
𝑎, 𝑏 and 𝑐 are constants and find the zeros of 𝑓(𝑥).
iii) Express 𝑦 = 5 − 2𝑥 − 4𝑥 2 in the form 𝑦 = 𝐴 − 𝐵(𝑥 + 𝐶)2 , where 𝐴, 𝐵 and
𝐶 are constants. Hence, state the maximum value of the function 𝑓: 𝑥 → 5 −
2
2𝑥 − 4𝑥 .
