Industrial Communication in 800xA SV5.1 − Overview

by Dimitrij Kirzhner (dimitrij.kirzhner@de.abb.com)

Question:
Is the Device Library for MNSiS only?

Answer:
There is no PROFINET IO or Modbus TCP device library available. There are device
libraries for PROFIBUS, FF and HART.

Question:
How many DeviceNet devices can be connected to a CI873?

Answer:
4 LD800DN can be connected to one CI873 board. Every linking device supports 496 Input and
492 output bytes. The sum of the inputs of all connected DeviceNet devices shouldn’t exceed 492
– the same goes for the outputs.
Example: 4 DeviceNet devices with 100 bytes input/output width can be connected to the
Linking device. Connection of the 5.Device will lead to violation of the limit. Maximum number
of such a devices connected to a CI873 will be 4×4=16.

Question:
In Modbus TCP, is it possible to publish real data type variables in access variables when
the controller is configured as a slave?

Answer:
Modbus dedicates some of its registers for float data types. It is possible to connect the
real data type to these Modbus registers. Modbus defines a register area starting with
address 40,000 for this purpose. The important thing is to specify the register address in
the access variables in a correct way. For real variables it should read '%MW0'.

Question:
How many IEDs can be connected per CI868?

Answer: Tere is the excerpt from the 800xA SV5.1 documentation 3BSE035982-
510_en_AC_800M_5.1_Communication_Protocols, chapter “Limitations”:

Table 17. Capacity of IEC 61850 solution using CI868

Limitations Max Limit Comments

Max LN's per access point 253
Max CDC groups per CI868 254 Max # of Data Attributes supported in a
receiving CI868 will be 254 * 5 =1270.
Max LD's per access point 10
Max Access Points per 4 (1 access point per CI868) non-
Controller redundant units.
Max Connected IEDs to one 80
access point
Question:
Regarding IEC 61850, what are “Sampled Values”?

Answer:
Sampled Values are real time data posted to the process bus. For Example: analogue
values from current/voltage transformer which will be sent to IED. The SV protocol is
not used today widely. ABB 61850 solution doesn’t use Sampled Values. More
information can be found in IEC TR 61850-1 IEC 61850 Standard chapter 9-1.

Question:
What about WirelessHART?

Answer:
Wireless HART connectivity to the 800xA system is a managed release with reduced
functionality. This means an approval from product management is required before it can
be used. For wireless connectivity ABB decided to use a wireless gateway from Pepperl
& Fuchs: WHA-GW-F2D2…This device has can be accessed via Modbus or via RS485
port (similar to HART Multiplexer), with the help of HART Multiplexer connectivity
package.
In order to enable the existing field devices to “speak” wireless, they can be equipped
with an ABB Wireless Upgrade Adapter (HNU200-WL).

Question:
Who can help with Device Integration?

Answer:
DIC in Bangalore – the “official” solution. Consult IT – the fast solution.
