Stress Management Strategies of GAS and STEM students of Marinduque Natioal

High School

Chapter I

Introduction

MNHS has Senior High School Courses composed of Grade 11- 12. Students are

more prone to stress because of many activities and performance that should be given in

college.

From the Academic track, the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics

(STEM) strand are students that are more focus in Science, Math and Engineering

courses. General Academic strand (GAS) is also part of the academic track for students

that still undecided on what they will take in college. This study discusses the study of

learning and stress management strategies of the GAS and STEM student of

Marinduque.

According to Sisk (1997), stress is a state of strain, tension or pressure and it is a

normal reaction resulting from interaction between the individual and the environment.

According to a study, stress has become an important topic in academic circle as well as

in our society. To be able to cope up with stress, it is needed to have knowledge on how

to manage it. Stress in students can be traced by adapting different strategies. Stress

management is the ability to maintain and control when situation, people and events make

excessive demands (Bukhsh, Shahzad, & Nisa, 2011).

Statement of the Problem


This study aims to determine the stress management strategies of GAS and STEM

students of Marinduque National High School.

1. What are the stress management strategies of GAS students?

2. What are the stress management strategies of STEM students?

3. Is there any significance differences in the stress management strategies between

the GAS and STEM students of MNHS?

Null Hypothesis

HO: There is no significant difference in the stress management strategies

between the GAS and STEM students.

Scope and limitation of the Study

This study primary focuses on any significant difference in the stress management

strategies between the GAS and STEM students in MNHS. The respondents of this study

are 20 GAS and 20 STEM students in MNHS, Boac, Marinduque for school year 2018-

2019. GAS and STEM student are chosen as the respondents because they are more

prone to stress because they are in the academic track. The respondent will answer the

questionnaires given by the researcher. The data gathering procedure at the study started

after the mid-term up to the finals of the 1st sem. of school year 2018-2019.
