to discuss the pathway to your academic and career
goals. This assignment is designed to encourage you
to become an active participant in the advising process.
The advising process is a partnership
where responsibility is shared by both the student
and the advisor. The following is a list of advisor
responsibilities, plus a list of your responsibilities.

Advisors will:

left unanswered

! Keep phone number and mailing address up-to-date
! Create short and long term DAPPS goals
Task 1: Schedule an appointment

1. Determine the name and contact information of your advisor.


Within MyHACC, click on your Student tab, then on the blue square under
“Student Success Resources.”
Confirm your major (program) is listed correctly. Find this info and fill in:

2. Schedule to meet with your advisor in person or by phone.


o If your major is not correct in MyHACC or has changed, inform your
advisor and ask how to do a Change of Major. You may need to meet with a
new advisor for your new major.
o You probably will need at least 30 minutes to complete this assignment
with your advisor so mention this time frame when you schedule your
appointment. Your meeting must occur prior to the due date listed above!

Task 2: Prepare to meet with your advisor

1. Find your advising check sheet from New Student Orientation or print one from
hacc.edu (Program Search) and attach/include the advising check sheet to
this assignment.

If you are changing your major, you will need to print a new advising check sheet
for your desired major and attach that check sheet to this assignment.

2. Decide whether you want to be full-time (12-18 credits) or part-time (1-11


credits).

3. Determine your timeline for graduation. This will impact the number of classes
you should take each semester, as well as whether you should consider taking
coursework in the summer.

to map out more semesters if you’d like.

Write those classes in the planning chart below or attach an existing


educational plan (if you already created one with your advisor).

If you’re not able to complete an educational plan, write an explanation with


reasons.

2. Talk to your advisor about any questions or concerns you have from your notes
in Task 2.

Inform your advisor of any changes that would impact your academic
plans (family, work, limitation in physical abilities, criminal record, etc.).

Ask your advisor any questions you may have about your attached
advising check sheet.

3. Discuss your progress in the courses you are currently taking. Inform your
advisor if you are off course.
