Blood Concentration Version 2 (BCV2)

(last change: Okt 26, 2002)

(Edit, Feb 9, 2003: Changed the term Trial to Ritual)
(Edit, Feb 26, 2003: Changed values per level, mostly Childe level and max Ghoul Disciplines)

This is a replacement for the Generation background. It is NOT a background. It a rating every
Vampire has, and works somewhat similar to Darma and Arete. In character this rating is often
called ‘Blood level’.

BCV2 is divided into 4 parts. Each part resembles a stage in the un-live of Vampires.
A Vampire in Stage 1 is called an Ancillae.
A Vampire in Stage 2 is called an Elder.
A Vampire in Stage 3 is called a Methuselah.
A Vampire in Stage 4 has no official name, and are often seen as mere folklore amongst Vampires.

Most Clans refer to Stage 4 Vampires as the First Ones, since they are the oldest Vampires out there.
It is said that for each of the unique Clan Disciplines there is one First One. How many Stage 4
Vampires there are is unknown, but it is estimated to be 10 to 20 tops. One Vampire in particular is
legendary, and believed to be the only one ever to have reached Stage 5...

Each stage has three levels. At the end of each stage the Vampire must undergo a ritual before he can
pass on to the next stage. On the character sheet BCV2 looks like this:
OOO OOO OOO O

If you don’t want to print out the special character sheet, you can always just strike out generation on
a standard sheet and put Blood Level there. Use the numbers seen in the first column in the table
below, including the + at 3, 6 and 9.

Benefits per level:

* Certain extra special blood rituals can be done at this level.
Ritual of Thin Blood:
This is a ritual in which a Thin Blooded will be earning the right to become a full Vampire. When
the ritual is over the player will be able to buy the first level of BCV2.

Ritual of Elders:
In this ritual the Vampire will earn the right to become an Elder, and get the following new abilities:
• Being able to spend more than one blood points per turn.
• Have their Ghouls be able to learn Disciplines above the first level.

Ritual of Discipline:
The Ritual of Discipline is less grand then the Ritual of Elders and will give you only one new
ability. But the ritual is well worth it to get this new ability. When you have successfully went
through this ritual he will be able to learn Disciplines beyond level 5. Methuselahs who want to learn
level 6+ Disciplines need to find a mentor or go into seclusion to learn it themselves. Most of them
only bother to learn level 6 and go no higher because it takes to much time and discipline to learn the
higher levels.

Blood of Potency: (Level 3 of the Thaumaturgy Path of Blood)

This does not increase the BCV2 level. Instead of lowering generation a Vampire gets the following:
Thin Blooded: 2 bp per success.
Stage 1: 5 bp per success
Stage 2 and higher: 5 bp and 1 bp/turn per success

Golconda:
Vampires in Golconda are considered to have a maximum possible trait rating of 10. But their BCV2
will remain the same!

Diablerie:
• Victim is of equal level of lower BCV2 rating:
o Causes black veins in the Diablerist’s aura for 1 year – 2 months per level difference.
• Victim is of higher BCV2 rating:
o Gain one BCV2 level.
o Gain two BCV2 levels if the victim is more than a full Stage higher.
o Causes black veins in the Diablerist’s aura for 1 year per level difference.
o It is not possible to increase the BCV2 rating above a Ritual point.

Increasing Rating:
A character can increase the rating without diablerie. The Storyteller needs to decide how it is
possible to do this, or if this is even possible at all. Age should be a factor in this. Look at the Darma
rating of a Kindred of the East for inspiration.
I have set the costs for increasing Blood Concentration to this:
- 8 Freebies per point.
- 10 XP for level 1.
- 8x rating to increase to the next level.
You can always change this to something you like better.
