Troubleshooting

Error Messages

“User ID not found” - If you are just installing and you receive this make sure you are cutting and
pasting or copying exactly the ID and number we sent you including the hyphens. If you still get
this
message contact our customer support.

“Your license is already activated, deactivate first” - means the license has already been
activated online, and cannot be activated a second time. Flip-Q must be de-activated from the
original computer it was installed on before it can be activated anywhere else. Un-installing the
software will not de-activate the original license.

“Automation error” - is typically caused by incorrect configuration of the monitors in Display

Settings. Please refer to the appropriate “Screen/Monitor” set up guide to ensure all settings are
correct.

“Manifest file is missing” - This error is usually likely specific to the machine in use. And is
caused by it having had a “tweaker” program used. However please try the following to copy the
manifest file over from the USB stick again;
-Click Start and then Run
-Type %temp% then click OK
-Delete the Flip-Q USB folder
-Run Flip-Q USB
If the problem remains please try another machine.

“Runtime Error-missing splitter.ocx” - means this component has probably been deleted from
Windows, perhaps when an uninstall has taken place. You could replace this file from another
Windows machine. The file is in the system32 folder in the Windows folder.

“RichtextBox is missing or outdated” - message. Similar to the above error.

“Run time error 70” or other errors are commonly caused by running the wrong operating
system. Computers must have Windows 2000 or XP, Service Pack 2.

15
“Error Code 6 – overflow” - indicates your text file is too large. Break it down into smaller files.
Flip-Q flash drive errors can be caused by the user not having “permissions” on their “user
account”. Flip-Q on a flash drive installs and runs the software in the “Temp” folder. If this action is
blocked by not having permission, or by virus software like Norton, the software will not install.

“Error 429 ActiveX Component can`t create object” - Word document formats are the property
of Microsoft and you must have a licensed copy of Word on the teleprompting computer to be able
to open a .doc file.

General Tips

Monitor Set-Up
Do not have Flip-Q open when you are changing the display settings, re-open it after the
settings are applied.

If Flip-Q will not let you check the “Secondary display settings” box it means
the monitors are not set up correctly or the hardware will not support the settings you have chosen
in Display Settings in Windows.

Do not set your monitors higher than 1024x768 resolution.

With older laptops you might be able to see your desktop on the Prompter monitor, but not be
able to “extend the desktop” because the hardware in the laptop may not support it. This is called
“cloning”. If you can only use clone mode you can run the software in single screen mode and
check “small window output settings” in Flip-Q and check “mirrored” in Primary Display settings.
Then when you go into Prompt mode (F8) you will be able to follow the script in a small box on
your laptop and the teleprompter will get the reversed text it needs.

Microsoft Word

You cannot have a document open in a text program like Word and try to open it at the same time
in Flip-Q. Close the document in Word. Sometimes Word will not immediately release the file even
if you close Word, you may need to check in the Task Manager to see if Word is still running.

If you are getting an error trying to open a Word Document, make sure you have Word loaded on

16
the computer. Word document formats are the property of Microsoft and you must have a licensed
copy of Word on the teleprompting computer to be able to open a .doc file.

A run time error can also be caused if the .doc has macros, tables or other non-text items
embedded. Try saving the file as .rft or .txt to strip out extraneous information.

Word doubling can be caused by macros or other non-text formatting being imported with Word
docs. Import the file, immediately save in the Flip-Q format, .fqd . Then re-import the script. Or you
can just save the file as .rtf or .txt in Word and import it into FlipQ.
